I will say I'm surprised that we dropped from 6 to 15 in the AP. There are quite a few undefeated or one loss teams but that big of a drop when only losing by 2? seems a little rough but guess that means they need to beat some good teams to prove themselves. Lets hope the wheels don't fall off like last year right.

We beat 4 bad teams - Texas, GT, UMass and Virginia - and lost to a Clemson team that will probably drop 2 games. Surprised they ranked us as high as 15.

The loss along with the combined record of who ND beat seemed to have come into play.

This, Texas, a courageous scheduling decision at the time it was made, is a dumpster fire. The other teams are also bad this year. But ND has Standford and us (SC) coming up to gain ground. You need to pray that if you beat those two teams it is their only other loss. A victory over two teams that end with three loses won't help much.

Beach, we need USC and Stanford to win out except for a nice ND loss on their resume for the Irish to be in the NC conversation, and of course, ND has to win all the remaining games. By the way, I was travelling yesterday and unable to post but a couple responses to the Kelly fault seekers, but wanted to say I thought your post was right on vis a vis Kizer and Malik, and your observations about the game in general.

That drop could be just as reflective of Texas and GA Tech losing bad games as it was of our game. Our SOS, as of right now, has gone down the tubes. Hopefully we can get some juice back as the season goes along.

Thanks, and I agree. Until ND plays you guys are big SC and Stanford fans. Even though that may hurt.

IDK... it seems fair to me. The only 1 loss teams ahead of ND are Bama and Ole Miss. Bama dropped to 13th after losing Ole Miss and Ole Miss dropped to 14th afer losing to Florida. Ole Miss was ahead of ND as well. The rest of the teams are undefeated. Regardless, what difference does it make it ND is 13, 14, or 15th? If ND goes 11-1, they will leave themselves in the discussion for the play offs.

ND will need to win out and a small miracle to get into the playoff. It has already been established by some that they didn't feel ND deserves a playoff even if they were undefeated. A one loss Irish team seems very unlikely to make a playoff spot.

ND will have the opportunity to prove themselves.

I don't think anyone who has a vote has ever said that.

You maybe right about that. I can't say one way or the other. But you have to think that without being in a conference and only 4 spots, there might be some bias against the Irish even if they went undefeated. A 1 loss ND team seems unlikely to get in. Just my thoughts on that subject.

If and when Notre Dame is every undefeated and playing the type of schedule they usually do and they are not invited to the playoffs is the year you see the system scrapped and it expanded to 8 teams.

We're still the 3rd-highest 1-loss team, which isn't too bad. I might put us up one spot to #14, ahead of Ole Miss, but other than that, I can't complain.

The good news is that USC and Stanford look like two of the best teams in the Pac-12 this year, so those games will boost our SOS. Also, Navy and Temple are both 4-0, and Pitt's 3-1.

Ole Miss Beat Bama so I don't think we should be ranked ahead of them. It is a moot point, a 1 loss ND Will not make the playoffs. The SOS is weak and USC/Stanford are ranked too low to make a major jump. No Conference Championship game also hurts. So unless every team ranked ahead of us collapses, there really is not a chance.

They don't all have to collapse. Just all collect at least one loss. Remember Yogi Berra!

Correct Beach, and that's why I favor an auto birth for the five conference champs and three at large selections for an eight team playoff.

Not trolling, I would also like to see 8 teams, however, why should a conference champion get an auto? What if they have 4 losses?

hpnole, first and foremost, I think it is the only way to get agreement. Second, when was the last time one of these conference champs lost four games? Ever? But, your sentiment has merit, so perhaps a hybrid...auto birth if in top ????? or no more than two losses or ??????

Atlanta and Glendale will probably be in there too, Atlanta with a brand new $1.5 billion retractable roof stadium coming on line in 2017, and thousands of hotel rooms walkable to it.
