Thanks to all who submitted questions for me and @Eric Hansen on our latest podcast. These are the questions we answered with timestamps.
36:40 • Ryan Urquhart - @UrquhartCRNA: Ian Book and Sam Hartman are similar size, both were multi-year starters and captains. Book was drafted in the 4th round and Hartman will have a similar draft projection. How would you differentiate who Book was at Notre Dame and what Hartman will bring to the Irish next year?
42:11 • @CharlesWWolfe: How do you think 2022 ND would have performed against Georgia in the title game? Also, how do you think the 2012 team would have matched up against 2022 Georgia? Just a parlor game as we continue to speculate on how to close the gap.
46:49 • @MikeMenard12: It seems that the LB room continues to put a premium on experience over potential. Is the secondary philosophy different then the LB room? We seem to allow our DBs opportunity to learn on the job and we don’t afford the young LBs the same luxury. Can you shed light on this?
51:01 • @henrybeede: Which rising sophomore will make the largest jump in 2023?
55:27 • @therealtwnzl: Can ND please get some D tackles. I’m worried that a poor D line will waste Benjamin Morison and other talented CB in 2023. Also if defense is poor the best offense since 2015 will also be wasted. Give me some good news on D line transfers please!! and @1IRISH1 Who are some legitimate defensive ends ND may go after in the portal either now or in the spring?
1:00:49 • Chris Scheiber - @scheib43: Worst case here, do you think there are any OL buried on the depth chart that could make the leap to DT? It's not ideal but has worked out in the past with Tillery the most recent example. Might give a guy a chance to see the field instead of a transfer if they are interested.
1:04:14 • ldlgoirish (TIL): I felt the ND O line combi blocks (cross blocks, double team and release, etc.) were behind other good o lines in college football. I know that HH stresses fundamentals and last season was his first back in charge. What skills etc can we expect to be taught in year two that were not taught in year one?
1:07:52 • Christopher Kruse - @ChrisND92: What are the portal signing rules? Can a prospect sign at any time (right after / as they commit) or is there a separate portal signing period?
1:10:16 • Marie Biafore - @biafore_marie: Now, that 2022 is over, what would your final grades be for the following coaches. Freeman, Rees, Golden, Stuckey, O’Leary, and Washington. Please consider giving a separate grade for recruiting, and one for coaching in general.
1:17:25 • ldlgoirish (TIL): Picking up on Eric's article about what ND can learn from Georgia (where ND needs to be better) and previous articles noting ND's better recruiting performance as shown by % 4/5 stars,(but few or no 5 stars), and knowing the importance of recruiting and development (no 5 stars means greater importance of development) , please comment on how the development model at ND can be enhanced and what coaches can keep up with those recruiting and development expectations. IMO D line development in doubt, LB's have regressed but hopefull will flourish in year 2 of new DC and scheme, WR Styles went backwards can he regain form and others become scary playmakers,. O Line too slow to become cohesive again year 2 should be much better in second year of HH, etc....
1:23:34 • @henrybeede: There seems to be 8-12 players on the roster who the coaches are sure will transfer before the start of next season. How will the staff handle these players during spring practice? Will these players be held out of practice to maximize reps for returning players?
1:31:28 • Bert Leonard - @Bert2834: Has any AD had to replace the football, baseball, and both basketball coaches in this short a time period (assuming Brey gets replaced)?
