I understand JJ was in 2012 class So in the 2012 season he redshirts. he plays 2013, 2014. He should have 2 more years left, correct? Assume he does a fifth year senior and he could do a grad program for year 2 if he wanted, yes? Likely he goes pro after the fifth year....is my math right?

2015 would be year 3 of eligibility, 2016 is year 4. He can potentially get a waiver for 2017 as a 6th year since he will lose 2015. The NCAA could give it to him but if they were to choose not to grant it then it would be because he redshirted.

You usually need to have two medical redshirts in order to get a sixth year. Not sure if he got a medical in 2012 or not.

I think the NCAA might grant him a 6th year in 2017, but I doubt he applies for it. He'll probably go pro at that point.

It will probably be a moot point because as many have noted if he comes back next year and plays well JJ will probably go pro no matter what. Getting the 6th year requires you to show that you missed at least 2 years for reasons beyond your control, i.e. injury. JJ won't be able to show that.
