Minor point in the midst of all the Jewel Lloyd discussion, but I'm curious: when athletes come back to school to finish their degree a few years after leaving ND early, does the school honor their scholarship, or does the athlete have to pay for it themselves? Seems to me ND shouldn't have any obligation, legal, moral, or otherwise, to do so. Maybe they do because it's good PR and/or it assists with boosting graduation rankings, (or maybe in the case of NFL or NBA players, they wouldn't want to burn a bridge re: future alumni $$donations?). But otherwise, why wouldn't ND make the athlete pay? Do they? What about other universities?
