OK. After summer camp, let's say Brandon Wimbush ends up as the No.1 QB on the upcoming season's depth chart. Does anyone have a "gut feeling" right now who the second, third, and fourth QBs will be? The 2016 fall roster QBs were: Ian Book, Nolan Henry, and Montgomery Van Gorder. Or, could the in-coming freshman, Avery Davis, beat out the others and be Wimbush's back-up?

Ian Book then Avery Davis. Just wish Avery was an EE. He is small but I think he possesses an "it" factor.

Wimbush is the best physically then Avery followed by Ian. The big issue is who makes the best decisions. Wimbush is the one you can design an offense around I believe like an Oregon QB.

Whoever signs an agreement they will play all 4 years of eligibility at ND. If you can't commit to the team, the team needs to make sure they have a QB that will use the experience he gains from starting and learning and making mistakes to help his team. You then use that experience when you are an upperclassman to be a leader on the team.

If Ian Book is willing to make the commitment, he should be the starting QB. If Wimbush can make the commitment, all things equal, it should be Wimbush.

It's simple. You commit to the team, and the team commits to you. ND is not a football factory, and should not try to be.

the first series of the 1st Qtr of the 1st game is key for Wim.
When he comes to the sideline, will it be Mr. Chips or the Purple Pumpkin?

Book was Sanford's QB pick. He may be the security blanket similar to Rees. If so, that might make for an unstable QB situation.

If Avery Davis can't win the job outright, they will put him on the scout team to get the red-shirt year.

So Ian Book will be #2 if he doesn't beat out Wimbush. I think saying he is similar to Rees might be selling him short a little bit.

What's the over/under for turnovers next season at the QB position?

If the coach can leave at any time, then so can the players. Hell, I think the players should be allowed to transfer to ANY team without sitting out or losing eligibility.

What might happen is this. Players will continue to be recruited all four years by opposing coaches. Players who have a brush with the HC, deserved or undeserved, might vacate. Players who broke up with their girlfriend from said university might vacate at the urging of continued pressure from opposing programs. Players who have been demoted from Starter A to Starter B might look elsewhere. Some players might play for three different programs. Some stars might follow their HC to another program. Maybe five stars leave to join their coach. I would defer to college football players, former and active, on their thoughts before I take serious any message board chatter on the topic, including my own chatter.

That's like asking players if they should be paid don't you think?

If the coach can leave at any time, then so can the players.

But that's the issue. ND can hire another coach anytime. They can't bring on another QB or RB with 3 years experience.

Sure, they can leave anytime. And if they can't make the commitment to follow through on their initial commitment to the team that's ok too. They will make good bench strength.

Again, Book or Wimbush could have won 4 games last year and would be returning this year with that invaluable experience. Instead, it's going to sit on a bench in the NFL. Or more likely in Canada.

Good point

I'm all for the players transferring but if they could go to any team without sitting that would be disasterous . Imagine top players who are in crap programs all went to Alabama because they wanted to win a title Teams would be stacked. Recruiting would never stop. Imagine Fournette playing for Ohio State this year because he knew LSU wasnt going to cut it. Or Christian McCaffrey going to michigan after his sophomore year. It would be insane.

Kind of like Kelly did with Zaire (we all saw it on Showtime) and then reneged when a better option came along. Let's just get guys that are talented, hungry, smart and not afraid of competetition ... that's always been a winning formula at ND and elsewhere.

^ unless ND reduces the SOS then ND will have a hard time winning more than 7-8 games per.
ND is just unable to keep pace recruiting top talent with any degree of 'depth'. If recruiting finishes as it appears it will, then 4 years of sub par defensive recruiting will be evident in 18,19; most likely after JS and BK are out the door. The futility they brought will continue after they have gone.
By the time the ND administration notices that revenues start to decline, it will be too late to reverse the course. The decline will increase at an increasing rate.

I do not agree with playing down the schedule, and winning does cure a lot of things but So does being able to sell your vision. The problem with the current coaching staff is the vision is skewed.
The best seasons for coach Kelly I think will be removed from the record books
Though it's not like it didn't happen I fear other recruiting programs will use it against the Irish

That's nice. Tis the season for those heart warming stories and scenarios.

The only problem with your story is. ...
