On yesterday's podcast (1:05:14), we were asked the following:
In the past 10 years. One player you thought would excel at the next level but did not. One player you were pleasantly surprised by their success at the next level?
Eric picked QB DeShone Kizer for the first question. "I remember talking to Charlie Weis before the draft in 2016 and I asked him what he thought of Kizer and he liked him. And he goes '... unless he goes to Cleveland. That will dead end his career.'" Eric also mentioned NG Louis Nix III and LB Manti Te'o.
Eric listed the following for the second question: OLB Romeo Okwara, OLB Jamir Jones, WR Ben Skowronek, RB Tony Jones Jr. and DB Matthias Farley.
I said that WR Miles Boykin has been less successful than I expected. CB KeiVarae Russell's inability to find a consistent role has also been surprising.
In terms of positive surprises, C Sam Mustipher came to mind, especially after going undrafted and spending his rookie season on a practice squad. But he started 7 games in 2020 and all 17 games last season for the Chicago Bears.
Whose NFL careers have surprised you positively and negatively?
