Nearly all of you have read or at least heard the words of Luke 2:8-12: "Now there were shepherds in that region living in the fields and keeping night watch...The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone around about them..."
This group of...outcasts, for want of a better term, were the first to hear the news of the Incarnation. They must have been stunned beyond belief. They rushed into Bethlehem and found Jesus, with Mary and Joseph. The looked upon this King, our Savior, Christ the Lord. It must have kept them in awe for some days. Then, like the rest of us, they likely sort of got caught up in life and the memory drifted a bit. Still, every so often, when they remembered it, they must have stopped and said, "Wow."
We'll celebrate this great event, this defining event, again tomorrow and Sunday. God Himself intercepted us, humankind, in our then-trajectory and became man and made His dwelling with us. Let's all be in awe of this, even 2,000+ years later. And, as we move away from this time, into winter and then spring, etc., let's remember to look back and be moved to say, "Wow." Let's remember why He came: Because He loves us.
Soon, and very soon, we are going to see the King.
Please know that you are in my prayers whenever you ask, especially those of you who've suffered the loss of one or more loved ones this past year or in recent years.
Soon, and very soon, we are going to see the King.
Grace, peace, and Merry Christmas to everyone of you and your families.
