As someone who went to a college they could afford, worked through college, never took out 20k to study in Prague and paid off all their loans. 🖕 that’s my feelings on the matter. In my 39 years this is the first time I’m really embarrassed of my country.

If this is the first time you have been embarrassed, you really have not been paying attention.

This isn't the way I would have addressed the problem of higher education affordability. I would have preferred money go towards free online degrees and for attending community colleges. And let people who want the luxury higher education experience continue to borrow and pay.

But if businesses can cash in on PPP loans and Wall St bail outs, I suppose tossing a bone to younger people is NBD.

College education is first and foremost a business. And it’s very profitable for the colleges and universities. If you are going to college , you better get a degree in a field that is going to pay. Otherwise you are throwing your money away. The colleges could care less what major you are taking. So if the university is 60k a year and you take 30k in loans and major in sociology, nobody at the school is going to tell you that you won’t be paid a lot in that field. Fact. The kids are signing and not too many are thinking , hey I’m gonna make 50k a year and my loans will be 100k or more. Maybe I need to rethink this. It’s a scam. Parents need to really talk to their kids about all this befor sending them off to college. As far as this loan bailout goes. It is nothing more than a “bribe” to get young people to vote for the Dems.

As opposed to billions of dollars of tax cuts for corporations and the 1% ?

High education is definitely BIG business. Three out four of my children have either finished college or are currently still in college. My fourth is still in high school. I see first hand how cost has increased from the time our oldest started college until our son started college last year. Thankfully, my son earned a football scholarship that pays tuition and room and board plus will pay 80% of his masters degree.

However, each semester we still receive a “bill” of total cost. The cost is Ridiculous!!! Again, thankfully it says paid in full at the bottom of the page but man, it’s a lot of money lol.

Something definitely needs to be done about the cost of a higher education. Especially at public schools universities.

Just like so much Biden and company have done, is for the special interest groups that are only a tiny percentage of the population.

I have reached the point where I am beginning to think we need a French Revolution. Only on a much bigger scale. The scum that is the current political class of this country need to be permanently removed.

You are right

Classic. I know you guys are itchin' to do it. It's the worst-kept secret in America. But like I've been saying, you better make your move if you're going to make it. You always talk about all these liberals you're going to slaughter, but you never do shit. And with killer robots and AI already here and only going to get more formidable by the minute, you will have missed your shot!

And don't bother comparing yourself to the French Revolution. What, you think you're slick or something? Like you're part of some noble, romantic cause? Everyone knows which historical movement, shall we say, guys like you are the next incarnation of, and it ain't the sans culottes. Then again maybe a peasant like yourself does feel a certain affinity for the French Revolution.

And all this over some free tuition for college students. And you gotta storm the Bastille over that shit. Execute yourself some elected officials, eh? Like I say, make your move, the clock is ticking. If you're going to resort to mob violence. Or technology's going to pass you by....

You do realize the French Revolution essentially cut the heads off of everyone that had money, right? They did that during the Holocaust too. The trash of the nation killed those with money. Are you insinuating that we need to kill those with money? How about get a job, bud.

Unfortunately this stupid “free” college bs won’t help me. I worked too hard apparently and make too much money to have my loans forgiven. I don’t need Biden bucks. All these folks will be paying it back once they get their degrees anyways, unless they don’t work. Those that want forgiveness will simply see tax hikes. Nothing is free. Econ 101.

Besides, we won’t have that horrible event happen in this country because our founders were smart enough to create the second amendment. Good luck trying to attack this nation full of mostly hard-working law abiding second amendment folks. similar atrocities happened in the Soviet Union and China as well. It ain’t happening here in a nation where millions of people can protect their families.

Well you clearly will be one of those running for the border when it all hits the fan.

And its us with the guns chasing you....

The world may be in worse shape than the USA. It’s never been this bad. Sure the depression was tough but that was one major mess. We have never seen so many major messes in the span of 2 years.
just an embarrassment and people better open their eyes and vote policy not prejudice

Is anyone going to mention the tuition at Notre Dame?

$57,600 x 4 = $230,800 without room & board.

This would not be possible without the US government subsidizing the loans with no questions asked of the college students of America and the world.

Yesterday's news of a drop in the bucket relief was guaranteed to happen once the gov decided to guarantee student loans with no accountability from Universities.

I finally have a reason to virtue-signal on Facebook but couldn’t find a profile picture frame that says “I paid my student loans.” I’ll check again tomorrow. Surely they’ll have one soon.

Average ND student received $35K in tuition aid last year (not just loans)

The taxpayer gets to pick up the dime on "loan forgiveness" meanwhile you have universities (Notre Dame included) who have billion dollar endowments and are taxed at 1.4% on them.

As opposed to billions of dollars of tax cuts for corporations and the 1% ?

Those arguments have nothing to do with people signing for a loan and getting their votes bought. The US tax rate on corp is one of the highest in the world. The top 1% pay 30% of the entire tax burden. I’m not a 1% but seems like they are chipping in pretty well. 80% of all workers work for a small business not a corp.

This sets a precedent. Will we retro it? Will we continue it?

Should we expand to car loans people can’t afford but it was a really cool car. Transportation is critical for work. Maybe people should get free cars. Maybe we should all just work at an assigned job, provided by the govt. Maybe we should not let people make any decisions as we all have to bail out their mistakes.

I just don’t know where it stops. Could we have moved to zero interest. Could we have moved it to people making less than 25k. Could we ask the universities to not allow loads more than 25% or the value of the job base salary in the real world.

Eventually capitalism and a free society ceases to exist when accountability ceases to exist.

This feels like a chicken in every pot. Bad timing as I just paid the last payment for my daughter. From her 529, that I saved for with 30 years of work. Who knew I could just wait for the govt to buy my vote. What a sucker I was to put two girls through college to become a nurse and a social worker on my 130k salary.

It’s clearly Joe buying the young vote. Period/end. As those of us that have paid off now have to pay again through our taxes

it’s ludicrous

Anyone know when this go into place? I get a raise in January that will change my ability to qualify. I don’t want the loan forgiveness program to happen, but at the same rate, I’m not going to allow all the commies to get theirs while I sit back and don’t take it and then have to pay taxes later to clean up the mess. When’s this happen?

Hard work, playing by the rules and honoring your commitments is for losers. I’ll never make that mistake again!

It hurts the very people Biden pretends to care about (working middle class) and helps the people Biden actually cares about (25-35 year old milianials).
Can you show data on this? From what I’ve seen the lower income and working middle class is where the debt forgiveness is most likely to help (if they or their children carry the debt.) There are no increases in taxes so to this measure and the deficit has decreased so this doesn’t raise the US debt either (which hit an all time high during the Trump administration.)

Oh good, you're back in action. Well now that you're about it, tell us more about your fictional student loans. Sounds like you're right in the eye of the storm here! You just got a raise, because you're an awesome employee. Of course you hate this elfin' awful liberal policy, and the far-left commies like Joe Biden who are proposing this shit. But but you ain't no chump and you want to get yours, but shit, you're just not sure what you should do!

Why don't you ask your ND alum wife what you to do? She's probably smart, right? Isn't that correct, in addition to attending 270 straight home games, and always making a clumsy show of hating liberals and commies as if you are John Birch himself, the actual guy... that you got some fat, homely ND grad for a wife?

You know, when I post, and I'm being silly or stupid, that's all I do, I just goof off. You lie, and make up stories about yourself for some reason. Maybe you tried that in the past, and of course you get the typical assholes who resent you for it, so you tried a different tack, and just started making shit up. And then, incredibly, people started taking you at your word! Maybe that's the path many trolls go down....
