The Notre Dame Family also lost one of its dearest members in Professor Charlie Rice earlier this week.
He was an amazing professor, a dedicated family man, a Marine (retired Lieutenant Colonel), a driving force behind Bengal Bouts, and a champion of those who could not fight for themselves.
Above all, I think Professor Rice would want to be remembered as a man of deep and lasting faith. He was uncompromising in his beliefs, and held the University to the highest of standards. I also remember him being a respectful and caring person, even when you disagreed with him.
Anybody who stepped foot in the Law School knows Professor Rice. If you ever took his torts class you'll remember his opening day prank on the students, his "quorum of one", his open book test, and the joy he took in crossing his students in front of the class - always starting with fake anger, and ending with a smile on his face.
"Can you do that? Huh? Can you!?!?..... Yeah. Yeah, you can do that."
Godspeed, Professor Rice.
