Had a few drinks in this charming Irish bar yesterday. It's definitely the one place to see ND football when in Galway. The requirement is that you have to be there before "official" closing time at 11:30 p.m. This would mean that if you're in Galway when ND plays Georgia or MSU, you'd have to hang out for awhile before the game starts. Heading for Dublin today and will let you know if I find out anything about ND viewing options there.

Thanks man. I will check it out but as it stands now, I will be in Dublin for kickoff against Georgia. Let me know what is good in Dublin.

You there for work or vacation?.... stupid question, you are a snowflake you don't work! jk jk.

In the homeland for business or pleasure?

I can only promise that I'll ask. Right now, I can only recommend a zillion bars where ND won't be viewed. One is the Brazen Head, dating back to the Eleventh Century.

My uncles pub. It's beautiful, in the best city in Ireland. It was built in 1999, but it looks like it's been there for over 100 years. I have some of the best memories of my life sitting in the Garvey's pub that stood in this ones place when I was a kid with the entire family (there were 17 of us) celebrating on Christmas Eve, just th family with the pub all to ourselves.

It's the only pub I know of in Galway with a Notre Dame connection.

Thanks for reminding me of those great memories.

Really enjoyed the craic there. Ireland has so many wonderful cities, and Galway might well offer the most comprehensive and splendid variety of all of them.

I had to look it up , but yeah it is a incredible story and a cool name
Not sure how you feel, but I regard bullfighting as a sadistic practice. Saw it on TV and it was disgusting...the exhausted and taunted bull never had a legitimate chance. Glad to hear the popularity of the "sport" has plummeted. IMO, Islero did exactly what would be expected of him.

I never liked bull fighting either when I lived and studied in Madrid, but one of my Spanish friends
Was a big fan, so I did attend a few with him. I learned a lot about bull fighting from him.
" The ballet of life and death " . The beautiful moves of the matador, etc.
But I still never cared for it at all, especially the Picador raming his lance into the side of the bull
To bleed it and weaken it for the Matador.
I would much rather enjoy an Irish Pub !

That's no Bull.......just joking
There is such a thing called an Irish bull, but that's a different matter. It's a literary device where emphasis replaces strict logic.

Examples:

As I write this, I have a gun in one hand and a dagger in the other.

The horse ran so fast that the other horses had to run twice as fast just to keep up.

I realize that in literature (The Sun Also Rises) and lore bullfighting has been heavily romanticized. Matadors have traditionally been revered like a combination of rock stars and athletes. No doubt they are magnificently skilled. I just don't think the bulls are equal partners in this theatrical battle, something that shows in their W/L record.

Could not agree more ! Funny thing happened at the first bull fight I attended. The bull came out and jumped
Over the little fence between the ring and the grandstands. Boy, it was fun to watch all the bull fighter teams hop over that little fence into the arena to avoid the bull !
Bull fighting was never something that I enjoyed at all ! I understood the philosophy behind it , but never
Liked it because I love animals too much !

When my wife and I were in Seville a few months ago, we could have seen a bullfight. The town has an historic and beautifully designed stadium, but no way could I consider watching such a thing.

I love the city of Sevilla as well as all of Southern Spain, so very beautiful and full of history of the Moors and Spanards. Oh how I love the Spain of my youth ! How quickly life goes by !

Yeah, the city itself is a work of art. Even enjoyed getting lost in the zillions of narrow winding streets...it just gave us the opportunity to stop in at some taverna and have a sangria, usually accompanied a complimentary plate of Iberian ham.

Islero,
I really envy you and wish I could join you in Spain , a land and people I love very much and all the great memories that I have.
As a graduate student many many years ago, we made a trip to Andalucia with the Art Professor
From the University of Madrid. What a memorable trip that was !
Whe spent a number of days in Sevilla, the cathedral is one of the greatest in the world ( the following
Year, I went to live in KOLN , Germany and I lived very close to the Kolner Dom. )
Hard to say which Cathedral is greater !
Unfortunately , we missed being in Sevilla for La Semana Santa ! But it was great to visit the three great
Cities of Córdoba, Granada , and Sevilla !
Enjoy your visit to one of the World's great countries ! vaya con Dios !

l really like the Portuguese version of bullfighting. The bull is not killed, nor stabbed in the neck to lower his head for the matador. The fighting is from horseback and the coordination between horse and rider is a joy to behold. It is a dance rivaling the best of ballet.

Unfortunately, I never got to Portugal, but their Bull Fighting , at least to me , has to be certainly
More enjoyable to watch than their Spanish counterparts!
