The in-laws recently relocated to Michigan (Bloomfield Hills area) to be near extended family. My wife is now sold on the idea that we need a lake house in Michigan for family gatherings/summer get-togethers. I've spent a bit of time in Michigan but suspect many of you are much better positioned to provide recommendations from personal experience.
We're looking for a place on the water but also want a town with character. I'd prefer something more scenic/peaceful, but the wife is rightly concerned about things for the kids to do (toddlers through teenagers).
A few of the towns under early consideration:
- Grand Haven (I'm a fan due to proximity to ND)
- Traverse City
- Charlevoix
- Tawas
I'd appreciate any insight into these towns -- I've visited Grand Haven and Traverse, but visiting for long weekends is different than owning/staying for longer stretches of time.
