OT-Indiana let's Tom Crean walk

First name that comes to mind would be probably Chris Collins. He is good coach and probably even better recruiter. Archie Miller, Mick Cronin, Mike White, or Chris Mack would all be solid candidates. Brey is in the perfect situation as is.

Watched an interesting interview session with Dan Dakich on Mike&Mike this morning. Dan has life long state of Indiana ties as a player, student, coach, sports talk host, and resident . He said that since Knight left, the IU basketball program does not recruit the elite players from the state anymore. Great players are leaving and that's an issue. He went into specifics. The HS coaches are waiting to send their kids to IU for the asking. Problem is, basketball isn't the only sport where in- state talent is leaving. Dakich still believes IU is a destination job.

You would think ND would end up with more Indiana talent being in the top conference in the country.

While on the subject of Dan Dakich. He was raised and played ball in my immediate area. His Junior year at Andrean HS , his team played in the semi-state all class basketball HS tourney. They were down one as Dan's teammate took a half courter as time ran out. He was fouled. No time left. One to tie. Two to win. Most reliable and money free throw shooter on the team. Poor guy missed them both. I was there and it was a heartbreaking moment in amateur sports that I ever witnessed.

Dakich is not incorrect. IU is still one of the elite basketball jobs out there. The right coach can bring it back to national prominence.

As for coaches - Brey will not be a candidate. Brad Stevens will not be a candidate, though I'm sure IU folks wished otherwise. Gregg Williams, Steve Alford, Billy Donovan, Scott Drew, Chris Mack, Archie Miller - will all get serious looks from IU. The AD has expressed a strong desire to get someone with IU ties or Indiana (the state) ties to be the next coach. This goes to Dakich's point.

Either way, this needs to be a home-run hire for IU or they'll look really stupid for getting rid of Crean, who was a pretty good coach.

I think Scott Drew is at Baylor for a long while. He's successful. He gets what he wants for his program.Facilities are very good. All the Drew family ties to the state of Indiana are gone. Bryce is in Nashville and his Dad and Mom has followed. Is IU a better gig than Baylor? Not sure.
