I don't know who started it, but there's a movement to have Steve Bartman throw out the first pitch in game #3 in Wrigley. Thoughts?

I don't think it will happen. It should have taken place long before now. The fans and the media back then ruined his life. It's Steve's decision and I respect his decision whatever it may be. He can always join me at a Gary Railcats minor league game. The dogs and beer are on me.

For his own sake, I wish the media would just quit talking about him and let him live the rest of his life in peace.

Having him throw out the first pitch just increases the cartoonish nature of the whole thing. If the Cubs win it, then I hope some players and Theo stop by at his house with no prior publicity, but with the World Series trophy just so we can enjoy it.

There's a great comment by Steve Lyons in the ESPN 30 for 30 on the subject. He notes that Bartman did the same thing that 40,000 other people in the park would have done in the same situation, especially the guy fighting to get past Bartman to the ball.

So Bartman throws out the first pitch and the Cubs go on to lose the series.... The guy would be hunted down and murdered.

And yes to what Twalsh says. What about the other guy who fought for the ball?

And what about the shortstop who couldn't handle a double play ball?

Etc....

They should have the then Cubs SS, Alex Gonzales, come back and throw out the first pitch. The Bartman play was nothing more than a harmless foul ball. The Gonzales error loaded the bases and opened the flood gates. Prior sees Alou go crazy at Bartman and Baker sits in the damn dugout instead of going out to the mound to tell Prior to settle the hell down. It was just a foul ball. It doesn't help when a couple of Cub fans were handing out flyers prior to the clinching Dodger game instructing fans to not go after balls along the wall. Maybe these fans should have handed out flyers on how to turn a big league double play without screwing it up.

What the Cub fans a the damn media did to Mr Bartman was simply uncalled for. I watched the 30 for 30 and the TV media man acted like he had no idea what he and others in the media did to him.

You make a good point about Baker. Very passive when it came to managing pitchers. I always thought he left his starters in not one batter too long but two batters too long.
