Retired NFL star Michael Oher, whose supposed adoption out of grinding poverty by a wealthy, white family was immortalized in the 2009 movie "The Blind Side," petitioned a Tennessee court Monday with allegations that a central element of the story was a lie concocted by the family to enrich itself at his expense.

This is ten year old news and apparently now the guy is suing for money. The entire story is suspect on both sides but I would be putting most blame on Oher. Either he is one stupid guy, a procrastinator who lets people take advantage of him or a turn coat. Probably a bit of all 3. I do not think the Toouhy family could predict what would happen when they helped this kid other than help the kid get a scholie.

It’s funny that all the Samoan kids that can play football end up in the United States through sponsorships. Same way all the good football players would (some still do) end up at private Christian schools on scholarships. We’re NOT helping the kids unless they can help US in a lot of cases. Oher was no different. That family exploited him for their own personal reasons. I’m not sure he has much of a case though. Is he broke now or something?

I am skeptical about Oher; he frankly has not gotten a good rep from every team he was on

to be blunt, your claims sound very prejudiced vs Christians. and since you showed no evidence of those claims, you should not be surprised.

Lol. I’m not prejudiced vs Christians. I am one.

There’s evidence of this EVERYWHERE! What are you talking about? You can’t honestly believe otherwise unless you have your head buried in the sand.

You can’t adopt an individual that’s 18 years of age or older.

Hahaha. Aka, Oher spent all the millions of NFL dollars he received. Racismmmmmmm

Is your head not able to understand Oher made milliion$ in the NFL?

You probably have no money to contribute for reparations for the aggrieved party!

it it is everywhere then you should easily post some.

Otherwise you are just a liar.

Of course he did. You do know that a large percentage of athletes are broke within five years of finishing their careers too, right? Either way, I don’t care. I’m just openly wondering why this is an issue to Oher now. Wouldn’t the issue have been addressed when the movie came out. It’s been 10+ years after all.

I could go ON and ON. Get your head out of the sand

Well, it’s been long enough this to be a non issue for him. Definitely suspicious timing on his part. I wonder what his motive is?

I strongly feel that family exploited him though for their own personal reasons. Not that it makes his case now any stronger/weaker.

Are those articles opinion pieces ?

Patrirish, what gives you that idea? I cannot speak with certainty about every state in the country, but I would be very surprised if there are any that don't permit adult adoptions in any form. Generally adult adoptions are permissible so long as the adult adoptee gives written consent, and if the adult is married, the spouse must also give written consent. Some states have more stringent requirements, but don't prohibit adult adoptions entirely. Adult adoptions happen more often than you think, often as an estate planning tool.

Anyone 18 or older can NOT be adopted without their written and court approved consent.

If you adopt an infant or a young foster child, which are the predominant number of cases, you do not need the adoptee‘s consent.

Ergo “no one can unilaterally adopt an adult (18 and older)

That’s what gave me that idea.

I doubt they all are. There’s literally hundreds of articles just like these. It would be hard to fathom every single one to be just opinions.
Look at who the authors are.

Hundreds ?

I always prefer confirmed, hard stats.

You've added the word "unilaterally." Adoptions typically require lots of consent forms, even with infants and foster children, and the judge's ultimate approval in the form of a written order, so of course they cannot be done unilaterally. Your previous post made a blanket statement that an adult cannot be adopted, which implied that an adult cannot be adopted under any circumstances, which is not accurate. I was simply trying to make that clear. Not a big deal.

Hundreds of opinions that support YOU.
Probably more that laugh at you; and even in THOSE two your claim about religion is garbage

Are those articles opinion pieces ?

Or this one

This will be my last post regarding the subject. As I’ve stated, there are hundreds of articles regarding illegal recruiting in high school sports. HUNDREDS. Here’s why I won’t continue further:

This one isn’t opinion. Again, hundreds of examples are out there

That judge is certainly entitled to his opinion.

Question, if that judge’s opinion is overruled, does that mean that his opinion was wrong ?

So when differing opinions are presented, rather than engage in dialogue you take your football and go home. I understand !

Lots of Nazi's were supposedly christians.

And AS I SAID NONE OF YOUR CITES back your religious hysteria

If you’re anything like this in real life, please seek counseling. You’ve completely gone off the deep end. Wow
