Retired NFL star Michael Oher, whose supposed adoption out of grinding poverty by a wealthy, white family was immortalized in the 2009 movie "The Blind Side," petitioned a Tennessee court Monday with allegations that a central element of the story was a lie concocted by the family to enrich itself at his expense.

This is ten year old news and apparently now the guy is suing for money. The entire story is suspect on both sides but I would be putting most blame on Oher. Either he is one stupid guy, a procrastinator who lets people take advantage of him or a turn coat. Probably a bit of all 3. I do not think the Toouhy family could predict what would happen when they helped this kid other than help the kid get a scholie.

Generally adult adoptions are permissible so long as the adult adoptee gives written consent, and if the adult is married, the spouse must also give written consent. Some states have more stringent requirements, but don't prohibit adult adoptions entirely. Adult adoptions happen more often than you think, often as an estate planning tool.

Your previous post made a blanket statement that an adult cannot be adopted, which implied that an adult cannot be adopted under any circumstances, which is not accurate.
