OT-Al Pacino to play Joe Paterno...

...in a HBO movie. Anybody else think this is in poor taste? The movie is about the PSU scandal.

What's in poor taste? The movie being done, or Pacino playing Paterno? Not sure where you're going with this. We have actors portray serial killers, rapists, terrorists, brutal dictators, etc. in movies all of the time, and we make movies depicting some of the worst atrocities the world has ever seen. Why would the PSU scandal be hands off?

I just think doing a movie on the PSU scandal is in poor taste. JMO!

I would have liked to have seen Joe Pesci cast instead of Pacino. Pacino with his loud Scent of a Woman voice just does not work in this role.

It would be in poor taste if PSU and/or Joe Pa are portrayed as the victims here instead of the actual victims. Or if JP is shown as a frail old man who knew nothing. That would be in poor taste.

Speaking of poor taste....how about Leslie Neilsen as Sandusky? Maybe George Kennedy?

Joe Paterno needs to be in hell if you go by the Washington post's news story that they wrote on the unsealed court testimonys that a court judge unsealed last july I believe. Joe Paterno had more than one kid come up to him in the 70s and claim that they were being touched sexually or just touched improperly by Sandusky and Joe ignored them or basically scared them into not saying anything. didn't read the Washington Post article but that is what people on other boards were saying that they read towards the end of last summer

Yet the PSU fans want to put the statue back up. # death penalty

Spotlight won best picture. This could be of similar quality.

I wouldn't read anything by the Washington POS.
They are far from a trustworthy and honest news organization now.
Just listen Bob Woodward about the Washington POS now as compared when he was breaking the Watergate stuff

If you read the transcripts of that whole sickening ordeal. The one thing that stands out is Joe Parterno taking away Sandusky's keys from the locker room as a form of policing the situation. The red headed coach tell's what he saw. Joe Pa's response is to take away Sandusky's keys. Wow!

What does it say about the school that they appointed his son to the BOT? What a disgrace!

Just out of curiosity, but why?

We have movies on war, scandals, murders, crimes--virtually everything--so I don't know why this would be different.
I don't know. Doing a movie about the subject matter IMO is classless. You have your opinion I have mine.

That's fine - I'm just curious as to why it's 'classless' since we have so many movies about crimes already. Or, maybe I should phrase, who is it not showing class toward?

If the movie brings to a larger audience an awareness that this issue goes on and it doesn't portray JoePa as an unknowing bystander with no responsibility, then cool. My fear though is at best, it will be somewhere in between; largely leaving his..um.."legacy" intact.

I would hope Pacino has the cache to play the role "somewhat" honestly. I use to admire PSU and their football program.
