OT: A fascinating Sunday read on Theopolitics

yes conservative Catholics and evangelicals have more in common than we do with leftist Catholics. That said this article is pure BS in its opinion based statements on conservatives. They make it sound like a fact with no facts typical leftist or Democrat. i.e. Global Warming (paris accord) There is evidence that Global Warming is real and that its not. Overall this is a hit piece on troglodyte conservatives.

Bummer, when I saw the title to the thread had Theopolitics, I thought it had to do with how Theo Epstein swindled the White Sox into giving away Jose Quintana.

Swindled is one way to describe giving up a load of prospects for a decent SP.

Not necessarily true, and most certainly not true when the trade entails giving up a load of Class A prospects (one with injury issues) for a more than decent pitcher.

zona...there is no evidence that global warming is not real. The overwhelming majority of the scientific community agree that it is real. The only genuine debate is whether it is caused by man or merely exacerbated by man.

Are there people out there that actually believe it's CAUSED by man? How do they explain all the historic fluctuations before there was man, or at least before man used fossil fuels?

The Paris accord was more about international welfare.
You can still be environmentally sound and not have to for over a small fortune to other countries that are not.

I'm guessing you meant to have "for" replaced by "fork." Amirite?

Not true at all . There is no consensus. First of all watch this video of this Nobel laureate on GW

He points out how the so called consensus.

After I posted it, I thought someone might think it was a Cubs story at first glance. And I agree, Theo pulled a fast one.

I think you will find it difficult trying to convince these "flat-earthers" of climate change issues. One disadvantage of the American respect for all people is the number of people who think they are experts in every field and with every opinion. Probably helps explain why the recent survey reported in the Chronicle of Higher Education found that 58% Republicans do think a college education is "bad for the country" (see http://www.chronicle.com/article/Most-Republicans-Think/240587).

I don't really know if global warming is real or not. If it is real, I think that man has very little to do with it ?
Pollution was much higher when I was a boy in the I930's fossil fuels were use by everyone to heat their homes. Industries in major cities just let the smoke pour out of their hugh chimneys. Cities like Pittsburgh had a terrible quality of air.
And the winters were still very cold. Today we drive gas efficient cars, the quality of air is much better, and we Have passed and enforced a myriad of environmental laws, but we are still having warmer winters ?
That poses an interesting question ? Why did we have very cold winters when we polluted more and had no controls ?
And today we pollute less and have all types of controls and we are having warmer winters ?
Perhaps man has absolutely nothing to do with Climate Change at all ? Perhaps we will have another
Period of colder weather in the not too distant future ?
Therefore, I think that Will Rogers had it right : " Every one talks about the weather, but no one does
Anything about it ! " No one does anything about it because, there is nothing man can do about it !
The Earth has gone through all types of very radical changes every since God created it, perhaps this
Will be another radical change ? Perhaps not ?
In any case, I doubt that man has very much to do with it ? That is my opinion, you are certainly entitled
To yours!

I have one very non-scientific measurement that supports your premise. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, 25 miles southwest of Boston, we skated outside on a small pond most weekends between say December 15th and March 1st., sometimes every day during Christmas vacation. Occasionally it got too warm and the ice melted or got too soft, but in general that was the pond hockey season. There is no more pond hockey season up there. The ice seldom gets hard and thick enough to be safe for skating. They get cold weather and some serious snowfall, but they don't get the consistently cold weather needed for outdoor skating.

Twalsh,
I too remember ice skating on frozen lakes just about all Winter well into the 60's and 70's.
As a boy in the 1930's and 1940's we used to see large blocks of ice floating down the Hudson River
Just about every day during the Winter.
And as you said we were still ice skating on ponds and lakes well up into the 1960's.
If the weather is now into a getting warmer trend, I think that man has neither caused it nor can
He change it. As I stated in my other posts that the " World has gone through many radical changes since
God created it."
My wife comes from a very mountainous area of Germany. At one time millions of years ago,
That whole area was completely under the sea. In modern times people go there to walk in the mountains to search for ancient Sea fossils.
When the waters receded there were also three active volcanos that constantly erupted filling That region with lava rock and soil. Today those volcanos are crater lakes. Of course, I am talking millions and even billions of years ago.
So yes, I believe in climate change, but I also believe that if this is a start of some type of cataclysm
Change that is in its beginnings, There is no way that man has caused it nor is their any thing that man can do to stop it !
Or on a more optimistic note, perhaps it is just a short term trend that will swing back to
More normal weather in a relatively short period of time !
In the mean time, man can not and never could do anything about the weather !
