The other was the lone Final Four team in 1978, which needed three wins to reach the Final Four. Other notable numbers from this win.

• Notre Dame won more NCAA Tournament games already this year (3) than it did in the 11 previous from 2004-14 (2).

• Mike Brey is now 9-9 in the NCAA Tournament and he moved past Johnny Jordan for most career wins by an Irish coach. Jordan was 8-6 in the tourney but holds the Irish record for most Elite 8s with three (1953, 1954 and 1958).

• Digger Phelps was 15-16 in the NCAA Tournament for the most wins by an Irish coach, but we think of it more as 14-14 because he was 1-2 in consolation games. Still, 15 will be the number to eclipse.

• No Notre Dame team has ever won four games in the NCAA Tournament ... but this has been a year where a lot of history has been made.
