"Notre Dame confirmed that report Friday in an announcement on Twitter. Burris joins the program as its senior defensive analyst."

This is great news.

From wiki:
As coach:
"He was the Irish's primary running back in their goal line jumbo package, rushing for 167 yards on 29 carries and 10 touchdowns and catching one pass for 3 yards and a touchdown. As a senior in 1993, he was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American as a defensive back."

Shouldn't we be hiring analysts/math people for these type of jobs?

Burris was a stud football player -- but i'd rather have some economics guru 'analyzing' defensive data to give us some kind of gameday edge.

It is basically another coaching position. We have a ND guy working back at ND and helping coach in practice. Now he cannot be on the sidelines as a coach or recruit as a coach but at the end of the day he is another assistant coach.

In regards to the Math while I have no idea of his skills in this regard there are plenty of people who will / can do this and Jeff can also add his football skills and knowledge to it but really this is one more assistant coach without the title.
