The list includes Brian Kelly, Mike Gundy, Mike Norvell to name a few, even basketballs Rick Pitino
You add this to the misfortune at Marshall University ..... wow

Did anyone really believe it would of come to this with the Supreme Court ruling?

The powers that be had to have been working on some kind of system prior to the this?

That is a effin' awesome development. They lived high off the hog for too long. BK kicked down a million himself. They have some end run way of doing it legally. But that was idea is my understanding.

So far....its coaches in trouble giving back their money. Norvell, Gundy, Kelly. I recall Jim Harbaugh gave back some of his money to avoid getting fired at Michigan, though some would interpret it differently. This resembles money laundering.

All coaches you can say are on the hot seat

The NCAA needs to step in and do something about the portal. It's completely insane that nearly all of Marshall's team just opts into the portal after a coach leaves. There are 150 QB's in the portal. There needs to be a cap on transfers that can affect eligibility. This is just out of control right now.

Agree. Something like no more than 5 portal players per team or something to that effect.

This reminds me of a company I worked at in the past. Despite the company being super wealthy (billions in annual sales) we would sometimes need to dip into our own personal money/salary just to make progress on a project and avoid months of white tape and bureaucracy required to get approval for the smallest costs.

Im sure the motivation on part of the coaches is the same.

"we need this, and we need this so much right now that i'll just pay for it out of my own salary, screw it!"

A 60 million dollar h

I’m curious if Jalen Milroe or Quinn Ewers will Portal.

The ncaa deserves to be disbanded. They are useless and have been for a long time They do not deserve to exist. Congress needs to develop rules. Period.

Then the useless ncaa needs to enforce the rules that they are incapable of making on their own. History has shown that the ncaa has not been able to do that either but it’s a start because rules in theory if not practice, create an equitable playing field.

He isn’t using NIL as an excuse. Just your favorite coaches are….
MF doesn't have the kind of tenure required to speak publicly on these issues. He's still super green and probably just happy to be a black man with a head coaching job.

He doesn't want to step on any toes at the moment but im sure he has his own strong feelings about these issues.

This is just silly to me. Can you imagine in your line of work needing to donate your salary to be competitive? If this doesn't scream the need for NIL regulation, I don't know what will.

Any tax experts out there? If a coach donates the money back...then deducts the donation....there should be an issue with the deduction because he is still benefitting from the money he donated. Laundering, anyone?

Totally agree that the NCAA is useless, but Congress isn’t far behind. Leadership matters. Put a Condoleezza Rice in charge and we’d see thoughtful pragmatic rules, and strict common sense enforcement. A pipe dream.

If a bunch of coaches are doing it, then my guess is there is some kind of legal loophole. I can't imagine coaches moving forward with such a move publicly without consulting some lawyers first.

But isn't government the very reason why NCAA is so weak now? I think it was Newsome (governor of CA) who signed the right to pursue NIL into law along with others. And while not government, I believe it was lawyers threatening to sue (I believe Justin Fields was first) if players are not allowed to transfer and play immediately. Point I'm making is from my understanding it's the lawmakers and lawyers that have significantly weakened NCAA power.

Since lawsuits are started by lawyers I would guess so. The government enabled the NCAA even if it did not create the NCAA.

Maybe the boosters are getting tired of paying the players and not getting results? Ohio Stare has a $20 million dollar roster, if they don’t win it all boosters will be angry, people like a return on their money. These grown men (stop calling them kids) are not getting coats to stay warm in the winter or a new video game system, they’re making hundreds of thousands or millions.

Schools are now outright asking for NIL donations from fans. Coaching donating millions in salary to NIL funds. Sounds like money might be drying up in a few places.

I don’t know what booster paid the FSU program in total NIL for two pathetic wins, but they can’t be happy.

I donate to my local food pantry and mental health association when I can.

I am sure someone is going to step in with some kind of cap, or luxury tax, or something to get this thing under control. Did I hear players can now play football 2 years at a Junior College, and that time does not count against your 4 years off eligibility? Essentially making JUCO's prep schools for 4 year colleges, We will have players with red shirts playing 6, 7 maybe 8 years of college football, Especially guys that are NOT NFL prospects, but are good college players who can make money playing college football until they are 25 years old,

This does not seem sustainable, Especially for mid majors, why go to a Mid Major? Spend 2 years prepping in a JUCO, then try to catch on at a P 4 school and have 4 years + to get paid
