It's become clear over the past couple of months that Notre Dame wants to take a hardline stance on official visits.
That was the case when cornerback commit Justyn Rhett wanted to take an official visit to Georgia. So the Irish told him and the other members of the Notre Dame's class that Rhett was no longer committed.
The latest wrinkle to this stance involves Notre Dame choosing to not host recruits on official visits if they're committed somewhere else. Not long after Texas Tech CB commit Calvin Simpson-Hunt expressed an interest in making an official visit in June, the Irish have learned that he doesn't intend to decommit from the Red Raiders yet despite making visits elsewhere.

It's an interesting stance from Notre Dame that could work out well. It could also backfire. Or it could be a little bit of both.
Clearly Notre Dame got burned by Amorion Walker last year, so this response is an effort to prevent that from happening again. If it keeps Keon Keeley and Peyton Bowen in the class come signing day, then I think you gladly take that trade of not hosting Simpson-Hunt.
It's a bit of a gamble, but Notre Dame protecting its class of commits is just as important as trying to add more commits. It's certainly a power move and one that requires a supreme confidence in your ability to recruit.
I'm interested to see how it all plays out. What do you all think of this strategy?
