Yea, but we have these much higher academic requirements to get in and thus..... Oh wait, Stanford has higher requirements. Could coaching be the difference?

But then we still have the annual argument here of coaching versus talent, with some arguing that ND will never return to elite status for lack of talent, not coaching. Love it when posters like you take the time to reveal several consecutive years of recruiting rankings in comparison to on field results. Alabama of course skews things a ton, but the play of Washington and Wisconsin and Penn St, etc... all show the impact of excellent coaching, HC and assistants.

I am guessing Shaw with our talent would have been right there....year after year.....

Great to see you back Cgvr. There are still some out there on this board who believe Shaw is a fraud as a coach even though he's proven he can do it on his own and away from Harbaugh's shadow. It's an absolute sickening feeling knowing that the Irish won't be back on the field until spring practice starts and won't play competitively again until next fall. When you think about how many bowl games there are now and how you just have to get to six wins to get there, it's unbelievable that Notre Dame, Notre frickin' Dame can't get to one, even one of the lower tier bowls. And yet, the great Jack Swarbrick is going to serve the faithful another bowl full of this crap for one more year.

The ol' ball coach hasn't been seen in weeks

Nothing more revealing than the statistics provided here. Kelly comes up short in:

1. Placing players in their most effective positions.
2. Having all phases of the game in synch.
3. Getting improvement from players year to year.
4. In game adjustments.
5. Situational decision making.

What other top program in the country would keep a coach under these circumstances. Not one.

I recall Kelly saying after Duke or Mich St that his goal was for the team to be measurably better in November. After two early season loses, that is an appropriate goal and metric to judge player development and coaching. Does anyone think we were a much better team in November that the one that started the season?

Thanks HR, my "happy birthday" message tipped me into limbo. I thought it was funny.... happy birthday to .... happy birthday to .... happy birthday dear... happy birthday to you. Heck, I was the only one here that remembered it.

You need to be a top 80 team to make the bowls and we were top 10 to start the year. Crazy. The sunshine pumpers are now relegated to drive by sniping. Sadly, the support of mediocrity further diminishes Notre Dame football. Fortunately, more people in power are arriving to the party each day. To all those who still support Kelly, please find any top 25 statistic over the last 6 years. There are a handful. No one coaches players down with the skill set of our numskull.... no one...

He and Decker are a trip. Stanford is reloading. They will land JT Daniels in 2 years and go on a tear. Physical, Fundamentally sound football can take a team a long way.....
We stink.
