Coaching Notre Dame?

Is this a joke?

How is ND coach (.71% winning percentage and 0 div 1 titles or major bowl wins) better than

Urban Meyer (a guy who has won 3 national championships and has .93% winning percentage at Ohio State and .85% overall)

Brian Kelly @ ND: 9.16 wins per season

Urban Meyer @ Ohio State 12.25 wins per season

So a good play callers claim to fame is a victory in Music city bowl?

Bad Play caller has 3 national championships

I will take a bad play caller and 3 NC's for a $100

Thank you.

And we will take real Irish fans here. You're a pathetic troll with nothing better to do than continue posting the same negative BS on this site. Thanks for adding to the Ignore list.

does anyone have any archived analysis from the tOSU/ND bowl game last time they played?
it would be interesting to read those.

football is a game of matchups.

Since you have a hard on for Urban Meyer, why don't you spend your time on the Ohio State board instead of pretending to be an ND fan here?

i think position by position nd matches up very well. ohio st has a definitive advantage in the secondary though. that said they have injuries there also. eliott is great but the combo of procise (if healthy) and adams is just as good. i'll take kizer at the qb spot. i'll also take nd's group of receivers as a whole. thomas and fuller a wash. neither teams tight ends are utilized much. on the o -line decker is very good but stanley is better. mcglinchey easily over farris. left guard a wash as is center. elflein over elmer. i like nd's special teams. coaching is all urban as he's earned it.

offensively: 3 things concern me vs tOSU
1. Bosa: will he single handedly blowup the ND offense.
2. N Martin, will he be overpowered vs the larger Buck T's
3. who will be the goto guy if Urban takes Fuller out of the ND game plan?

defensively:
1. will BVG DB's surrender the first 12-15 yds at the LOS, as in SU game
2. how to compensate for Schmidt in the run defense.
3. will ND be able to mount any kind of pass rush?

Those are my key questions, how well ND succeeds in answering each will determine W vs L.

(additional note: there is difference between sophisticated fan and sunshine pumping plant)

Coach Kelly better practice 8 men in the box....this could be a problem...it is for fans in Grand Haven, Mi. and Destin Fl.

Not a hater at all but not wearing blinders either. Kelly is not an advantage over Meyer. Kelly--or whoever he is letting do game planning and call plays--is not cutting it in the must win games. Florida State last season, Clemson this season, Stanford this season--all must wins we lost. Meyer wins the big ones. Period. Advantage Meyer and OSU.

Those are some things to worry about. I'd hope for someone to have a big game at wide receiver. I think ND does a good job blocking down field, and that can lead to huge plays for some of ND's backs. The passing game itself will have to be methodical using short routs.

Kizer is good dropping back. He can throw to anywhere but until he cleans up on some of his mistakes, I can't call him an advantage and not take into consideration he's had costly mistakes.

Procise, i guess we will see. I'm sure the pressure from coming back has been lifted some by Adams performances. With Kizer also, and Hunter utilizing his speed to get outside, Procise's return isn't huge but he is a play maker so you never know with him on the field.

The O-Line needs to play quick and attack the defense by getting blocks down field. Hopefully Kizer isn;t dropping back to pass too much. I hope ND gets the game on the outside and edges to neutralize the pass rush and ohio state defensive line.

ND will need to count on its defense to put forth a heroic, entire game, committed effort to win this game so i don't get very hopeful if it comes down to that...ND will need big plays to win and prevent the big play from Ohio State by being smart and not overly aggressive.

ND can't start slow like they did against Clemson. If they do, they could be in major trouble.

MSU 2015? He's human.

It's not having a hard on for Urban. I chose not to be blind like you and few others here. Kelly has to win a few big games before he can be mentioned in same league as Urban Meyer and Nick Saban. Can't keep making your living off of close losses and moral victories.

Yeah you are real fan. What makes you a real fan? Predicting that you will win against everybody and then falling flat on your face each time we lose a big game?

You can call it negative BS but tell me when was the last time we won a BCS/New Year's day bowl? I think year was 1994 now go back and see how many of those Ohio state has won since (8). Now slap yourself on the face couple of times.

Saban is great, but has some lousy losses too. Utah, Oklahoma, A&M, Ole Miss, etc.
Ole Urbie looked like Weis against MSU.

really? He lost to MSU by 3 points. So his loss by 3 points to #3 team in the country is really bad yet our loss to #6 team in the country by 2 points is great?

When was the last time Weis won 11 games in a season. I think he won 6 games in 3 years @ Kansas.

When did I mention ND? I merely replied to your love for Saban and Meyer. BTW, without two major TOs by MSU, OSU would have been blanked. Meyer is human.

Oh spare me. It's one thing to be critical, but it's clear by your comments that you really don't like ND. The next time you say anything positive about ND will be the first time.

Everyone is a human. Meyer and Saban just happen to be humans that win a lot more than us and Kelly. We are trying to get where they have been already yet, some here pretend that we are at the level of Ohio State and Alabama (year in year out when we average 8-9 wins a season). We have no room to talk against teams that are far superior than us and have been there for a decade or longer.

Here is the opportunity for Kelly to prove himself. If past is any indication he will fail and may have a close loss. At some points these close losses have to translate into close wins. At that point I will have no problem admitting that Kelly has taken that next step. For now he is a pretty good coach but far behind the elite coaches like Saban and Meyer.

I will have raving reviews and million positive things to say about Kelly/ND if we beat Ohio State. Come back here on Jan 1st. and check it out.

Can I be critical if we lay an egg again? against a quality opponent as we did numerous times in the past?

I won't be making excuses however if we lose... oh well we had injuries and yet we played #7 team in the country within 10 points blah blah...

Without a doubt! Multiple NCs always trump a win over 2013 MSU. There's no doubt they're great. They've had great talent and great Asst coaches. Funny how these teams have taken a year off on one side of the ball or the other when a coordinator has left. Perhaps, that's what makes a great coach. Knowing talented coaches and hiring them. Also firing them if needed.... Ahem.

If we win, I suspect I won't be seeing you. After all, you implied in a different post that ND shouldn't even bother showing up since you already chalk it up to a loss. Again, I've never read a positive comment from you about ND. I think it's clear why.

It's one thing to be critical (and I've had my criticisms), but it's another to never have anything positive to say. And you never have anything positive to say---not one thing. It doesn't take much thought to figure out why that may be. Why are you even here if ND makes you so miserable? Gee, let me guess.

You lying SOB... are you saying ND has never won a game since 2009? I'm here since then after a win or a loss to give my feedback just like everyone else. Jan 1 won't be any different..

I never said ND should not eve bother showing up. It's people like you who respond with this sentence 'ND shouldn't even bother showing up' whenever one points out to our weaknesses and gives their opinion as to what they think the outcome might be. Forget about my opinion tell me what's the line of ND-OSU game? so everyone hates ND? Is that why they have OSU favored by 6 points?

I said you "implied" ND should even show up. And perhaps I should have said that you wouldn't show up and say anything positive if ND beats OSU.

So tell me, do you float from board to board, pretending you're a fan of a lot of schools and making your idiotic comments, or do you just do it on a few boards? And what is your motive: do you think you're being funny? Attention-seeking behavior? Or just like to get a rise out of people?

Just like everything else you are wrong on all your assumptions. I only post here or once in a while on MB. I only post my opinion as to what i think of the match up on any given Saturday. My opinions are based on 22 years of watching ND football. So if i doubt that we will win on a big stage like Fiesta bowl against OSU its because we have not won anything on a big stage since I've been watching ND football. Until ND takes that next step you can't fault me for being skeptical.

Why do you take any criticism of the coach, play calling or players as personal insult?

Remember when we were two plays away from playing in NC under Charlie

Brian Kelley is a lot better coach than Charlie Weis but even under him we are always a few plays away... close yet never quite there. We have to win a new years bowl maybe once every 3 years... we have to beat teams like Clemson, Ohio State, Bama once in while to be taken seriously. No one cares about us beating the likes of Pitt, BC and so on.

ND is ranked # 8 out of 120+ teams in the country you turd.

This match up scares me, but also pumps me up. I live in OSU/UM country (Toledo to be exact), and I have been loudly supportive of ND this whole year, of course. If our front 7 come to play we win, as long as our secondary can hold their own against a weaker OSU WR core. On offense we need to pound the ball. Bosa is a phenomenal player and Ronnie Stanley and company need to come out with a chip on their shoulder and control the line of scrimmage. The way OSU loses is when they can't run and are run upon, see MSU victory. It's a tough, but intriguing game, and I for one cannot wait to watch it. Hopefully, this break allows some of our banged up players to heal up and be ready to end the season on a high note. 20-13 ND wins.
