Notre Dame vs Boston college predictions.

I say Notre Dame 28 Boston College 16. I miss the angry yelling at players Kelly. Now he has a blank stare on his face like he is all Xanaxed out. Elko is the spirit of the Irish !

Although your post had an element of humour to it, I actually very much miss the tyrant Brian Kelly. His guys played hard and were attentive to that Brian Kelly. There was a sense of toughness and accountability that started with the HC and manifested itself down the roster. When Kelly lost that edge (the one that took his team to the title game) his team lost their toughness.

I'm firmly of the belief that the higher ups at ND basically warned Kelly to calm down and play nice because ESPN and their hatred for ND (because NBC has their tv rights) were promoting Kelly's sideline demeanor negatively and making national news of it, while coaches like Nick Saban, Will Muschamp, Urban Meyer, Gary Patterson etc, etc could go ballistic and nothing was said of it. I think Kelly was told to play nice because as we all know, at Notre Dame image trumps all else, including on field success.

The best coaches I'd ever been around were complete tyrants, especially on game day. It's the easiest way to keep a team sharp, especially on weeks where the competition is lacking. If you have your team by the balls, locked in and on that line where fear and discipline meet, it's easier to keep them engaged. I'm not saying that's the only way, but I think you just hurt the team when you force a coach to be somebody He's not.

BC has a very strong defense but the offensive line comes out today with a spark ignited underneath them and have good play from the entire offense.... Wimbush took way to much heat for last week when in all reality he didn't get much help from anyone. EQ and that's about it. Take this season one game at a time and there is a great chance the Irish roll into the USC game at 5-1 against potentially a top 5 undefeated Trojan squad

ND 27
BC 13

BK said at his Georgia post game presser that the loss will not snowball. Of course he also said that he will use multiple RBs each week. Since there will be no snowball effect , ND wins. The score is anybody's guess.

Way to go out on a limb there...

I'd like to think ND will win this game by 40 with the opponent and talent disparity, but given Kelly's history in such games, it's more likely to be a one possession game.

I agree with NIN.
I want to say ND up 48-3 going into the 4th quarter.
But ND is coming off the UGA game and BC treats this as a rivalry game as ND doesn't.
ND has a history now of struggling against lesser teams.

Ara Parseghian , Lou Holtz and even Dan Devine weren't tyrants. I never saw any of them " go off" like some of these coaches today. Now , I'm not saying they didn't get mad or yell at times. I'm sure they did. For the most part they were always in control during games. My belief is that the way you practice is the way you play. The game is the end result. Maybe Kelly needs to intensify the practices. Years ago I remember when Buddy Ryan coached the Philadelphia Eagles. His practices were so intense, at times fights broke out especially during training camp. Those Eagle teams were nasty and mean. No defense I can ever remember played with a nastiness like that team. I only use this as an example. I'm not saying ND practices should get to that level. However, there is nothing wrong with pushing the right buttons to get the players to " fight" it out in practice. Do that enough and they will consistently field a tough hard nosed team. JMO.

Then you don't recall Holtz grabbing Huntley Bakich by the facemask and dragging him off the field on national TV?

I do . It was way overblown. Go take a look again. That was common to sometimes grab a player by the face mask. It's, not like he twisted it and hurt the player. Other than that name one time that Holtz berated a player or screamed in his face during a game. I don't remember any. Holtz was intense but he was also in total control. I'm not of the mindset that coaches need to rant and rave while coaching to get the best out of players. Again I think practices are where you get in their faces if needed. To be clear, I'm not saying Holtz or Ara or even Devine didn't have their moments of yelling during games. I'm sure they did. But I never saw it at the level Kelly took it to during his first few years as NDs coach.

The greatest coaches of all time...........Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno and Bear Bryant were not tyrants on the field on game day. That said, they were darned tough in practices.

The most stoic and emotionless football coach of all time though had to be Tom Landry!

Earlier this summer I predicted that ND's most unexpected loss would be to BC. So I'll stick to that prediction noting that it will take a miracle!

ND 30, BC 31. (with Michael Walker running a kick off back for the final TD)

The statistics from the BC and Wake game last week were pretty even. The difference was BC's four turnovers. I'm sure that ball security was a key feature of BC practices after Wake. BC's defense was excellent last year, and playing at home, I think they keep the score low. The Irish will probably win, but I think it will be close, within 7 points.

ND 20 BC 13.

The one thing I always stood up for with Kelly. Sheesh we could take a severe verbal punishment in freaking high school. Get some fire!

Should ND win ? Yes they should ! So, I think that those predicting a win are correct. However, I
Will just try to watch the game, and see how it plays out. Every game we went into over the years,
I was always confident that ND would win, but with our last three coaches, I was wrong just about
As much as I have been right in my predictions ! Very tough to predict ND football.
Go Irish, beat BC !

Wow. What a surprise.

Look for B.C. to mimic what Georgia by containing the outside run with their Ends while sending single blitz packages up the middle to stop the inside run and force Wimbush to win with his arm. If Wimbush can accurately push the ball down the field and over the middle (unlike what he did against Georgia) early to set up the run then we could possibly win easily. B.C. will try and confuse the right side of the line, especially Hainsey, to force the ball out quickly. If the line can hold up, we'll be in great shape. I think ND has to test the middle of the field bc I'm yet to see them do this besides those quick slants to Finke last week (Temple doesn't count bc they were terrible). Pass to set up the run! I hate saying that bc it's usually the other way around and I'm a firm believer that you have run early and often to set up pass. Wimbush is still green and they will make him beat them with his arm. I think he gets it done today. No hangover from Georgia and a heavy dose of Dexter Williams in the 2nd half.
