But Hartman is thinking big picture...not Mickey mouse short term 1 year NIL bullshit.Don’t we have the 4th or 5th highest nil avg? Meanwhile Swarbrick is paid more then any professor by 5x — or more. yeah it’s broken but nd certainly hasn’t gotten impoverished by it. as Freeman said and I paraphrase, nd is not being hurt by nil—-see Sam Hartman
They aren't against NIL, they are against pay for play under the guise of NIL.So we will be known as the school fighting NIL?
Sounds sort of like ...They aren't against NIL, they are against pay for play under the guise of NIL.
yepThey aren't against NIL, they are against pay for play under the guise of NIL.
Sounds sort of like ...
"It 'depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is"
ND hates the NIL. Period.
We can't say such because that means we're telling top recruits we believe your ND education and all that comes with that in exchange for your athletic services is more than fair....
Don't let the lip service distort reality. It's all a Punch and Judy show but ND is one school that could be a leader breaking away from the NCAA. They aren't the only ones that hate NIL but they can't be the only school to break away. They need many others to follow suit.
Yeah..... and I bet you buy everything a politician sells too.
Not far away whatsoever. It’s not just the cash but the unlimited transfers & reclassifying also. Has anyone watched NCAA tournament. 23/24 year old players. I would venture to say some college bb teams are older than nba teams.
Adrian, what did Hamilton say? I don’t have Twitter.Jack and the good Rev writing an op-ed in the NYT crying about NIL and pay to play is NOT a good look for ND. Like it or not, NIL and pay to play are not going away. That said, there definitely needs to be parameters put in place. Even Saban got pissed when an elite DB came into his office asking for $800,000 on a recruiting visit. ND has some of the top academic, athletic and legal minds in the nation. For f**ks sake use them and pioneer this new landscape. Are college athletics changing, yes! Is it going to destroy college athletics, no! These kids generate millions of dollars for their respective universities and they deserve their cut. Read Kyle Hamilton's tweet about NIL and pay to play. I think he's dead on.
One final point. These kids know they can get their degree at ANY time of their life. The window to play professional athletics is terribly small. ND needs to understand that and offer a prep program for athletes wanting to make it on the next level. Once they're done being a professional athlete, give them the opportunity to come back and finish their degree. You know, like Jerome Bettis did as Jack pointed out in his article. Bottom line, ND needs to get over itself and get out of the 80's. Last time I checked, people are NOT paying to see graduation rates. They're paying to see an elite football team. One that can actually compete for a Natty and not get crushed by 'Bama, Georgia etc...
"NIL is cool, but revenue sharing seems most fair. Each NCAA conference allocates the revenue brought in by a sport then evenly distributes a percentage across that sport's athletes. NIL can be the differentiator in earnings. Make more plays=More endorsements/ deals."Adrian, what did Hamilton say? I don’t have Twitter.
Now let’s say ND football Nil brings in 10 million. Split amongst the football team?"NIL is cool, but revenue sharing seems most fair. Each NCAA conference allocates the revenue brought in by a sport then evenly distributes a percentage across that sport's athletes. NIL can be the differentiator in earnings. Make more plays=More endorsements/ deals."
My understanding is that every player on the team would get a percentage of that $10 million through a revenue sharing program. NIL would be an opportunity for the individual stars to make more money on top of the revenue sharing. Now let’s say ND football Nil brings in 10 million. Split amongst the football team?
He was talking about it 6 years before NIL became a thing. They are ok with student athletes making money off of their name, image, likeness. What they are opposed to is acquisition fees, and pay for play. You must lack comprehension to not understand this.Yeah..... and I bet you buy everything a politician sells too.
What is he supposed to say? We're totally opposed to NIL? Oh that will do wonders for recruiting.
When all this started I said 5 years. Give it 5 years and you will see a drastic change(s) across the entire college landscape.
It might not take 5 years.
I would say on paper that’s fair. But once you get involved with money it opens a Pandora’s box. ND and a few schools would split the NIL fairly within the rules. You’re gonna have those schools that are gonna mess around with the nil so they get more players. Unfortunately I think college football in the true amateur style is gone.My understanding is that every player on the team would get a percentage of that $10 million through a revenue sharing program. NIL would be an opportunity for the individual stars to make more money on top of the revenue sharing.

That wouldn’t be fair for the football team? NIL gets diluted if their supporting let’s say the swim team."My understanding is that every player on the team would get a percentage of that $10 million through a revenue sharing program"
But, of that "hypothetical" $10 mil -- remember, some of those proceeds go to funding the non-revenue sports that do not generate any revenue -- so, are you telling those non-revenue sports to pack their bags? Are you basically moving football to a professional model (and, what about the cost of the scholarship these kids have? does that get waxed in the revenue sharing model?)
ND football, while it is the cash cow of the school, does fund many non-revenue sports so that they are viable to compete. 100 or so football players are not sharing $10M --
Agree with you, but we just took a 24 yr old qb. So everyone’s doing it and it’s pro ball minus long term contracts. Different worldIt’s not just the cash but the unlimited transfers & reclassifying also. Has anyone watched NCAA tournament. 23/24 year old players. I would venture to say some college bb teams are older than nba teams.
Again...more childish gibberish. He was talking about it 6 years before NIL became a thing. They are ok with student athletes making money off of their name, image, likeness. What they are opposed to is acquisition fees, and pay for play. You must lack comprehension to not understand this.
The free Covid year they gave all athletes is also a factor in that as well. That's why Hartman's still eligible. It’s not just the cash but the unlimited transfers & reclassifying also.
