Notre Dame a contender for former five-star defensive lineman?

He would certainly be an asset, but will transfers become nomads, constantly changing teams ?

My suggestion, limit a player to one (1) transfer !

I thought they were only allowed one transfer without penalty (other than grad transfers). Or did they change that again?

He can help. Hed start day 1
That’s not what edub72 said.

My question was directed to his specific response and not to any one else.

Try to follow the flow of the conversation.

Yes … and no.

Depends upon where you transfer to and the sequencing of transferring

The second time you transfer to a four year school you have to sit out for a year.

But if you transfer to a JUCO, then transfer back to 4 year school, there is no penalty

The reason you’ve seen so many is due to Covid and waivers granted by the NCAA a lot of guys were allowed to play immediately following their second transfer.

SC, UCLA or Oregon. Has visited UCLA and SC, not sure about Oregon. Haven't heard that ND is in contention.

He is a very good player. I saw him play in A&M's 2022 spring game as an early enrollee and he looked great. Last fall he was suspended with some other guys. The other guys who were suspended were not invited back to A&M, he was. A&M hopes he reconsiders and comes back. I hope that we don't just discard an 18 year old for a youthful mistake. I am about acknowledgement, change and moving forward. He would be good for ND and ND would be good for him.

I suggest you check with Chase for his opinion first, because you certainly need his approval before entertaining any sort of transfers.

Do we have a shot, probably not…. Would he be difference maker, probably immediate starter.

My understanding, which could certainly be wrong, is that he will announce his commitment to USC soon.

ND needs DL talent but do you want a kid that chased the NIL money, then got caught getting high in the locker room? Should do wonders for team chemistry. There is the Right Kind of Guy and then there is this kid. Let him go to USC, he will fit right in.

Guarantee there is a whole bunch of kids on the ND team that smoke weed and do something even worse.....drink alcohol....gasp.

He was also the only kid allowed back. He was there but wasnt smoking

That is correct.

In the locker room?

Beach - why don’t you go over to the Ohio State board and see if there are any rumors about Marcus Freeman taking a coordinator job at OSU you can update us in.

Doing it in the locker room is bad. But if he wasn't doing it it's irrelevant. But the other guys definitely clowns.

I don't know which is a dumber and more certain move to end up an undeveloped waste of talent as a defensive player, committing to USC or committing to Oklahoma. It's a toss up.

So, no first-round defense players from SC, is what you are saying?
I think what he’s saying and didn’t do a good job is that usc has gotten good talent on defense but hasn’t done a great job of development, players have still made it to the league but probably not at a clip they should have

That isn't true. Under Helton SC got poor talent and didn't development them. It was twice as bad as you think.

I think that the players know the difference between Riley and Helton. Riley's tendency has been to develop d players but put them in a poor defensive scheme. Not the best for winning a natty but good for players looking at the NFL.

And Oklahoma? BV is known as one of the best defensive coaches ever.

i wasn't talkin about oklahoma

Does Riley develop anyone other than QBs?

Heltons 2018 and 2017 classes had some darn good defensive talent, but then i agree it fell off big time.

This would have been a good addition but far from certain that he would succeed on and off the field at ND. He’s already had some missteps at A&M and has already burned through one school. Losing a proven P5 contributor like Lacey is probably a bigger loss.

Lacey was a bird in the hand, but Lucas is really talented!

Du LAc mentioned Oklahoma. Grinch has done ok with development, but his scheme stinks.
