I was in East Chicago this morning for the B2G 7-on-7 Tournament, and there were a number of Notre Dame targets on hand. I'll have full updates on almost everyone over the course of the next few days, but I just wanted to throw out some quick hitters.
- Notre Dame cornerback commit Julian Love was on hand. He's still all smiles after making his pledge. I talked with his father for a while and he kind of outlined the latest. Julian was trying to enroll early at Notre Dame, but Nazareth Academy won't allow him to graduate ahead of schedule. His father also said that the Irish haven't asked Julian to bulk up or anything. Brian VanGorder is fine with him coming in at 185. "They'll get him to 200," his father put it.
- Rivals250 defensive end Auston Robertson was playing linebacker. Notre Dame is sending two coaches to see him on Monday, as the Irish look to make that final push. This is a two team race between Notre Dame and Michigan State. The Spartans - in my opinion - lead, but it's noteworthy that Robertson is considering another trip to South Bend before making a decision on June 7.
- Rivals100 wide receiver Javon McKinley raved about his visit on Friday. I got video and an interview with him already up on the front page. His mother is high on the Irish, as well.
- 4-star safety DJ Morgan looked impressive on Saturday. Notre Dame hasn't offered Morgan, because he didn't play much safety last season, and the staff wants to see if he can cover a slot receiver. The Irish plan to evaluate him on May 14, but Morgan wants to announce a decision on May 20. That means there's a tight window here for Notre Dame to extend an offer. If Morgan had to pick today, I think it would be Nebraska or Arizona State.
- The Irish offered three-star safety Chacho Ulloa on Friday. He used the word "blessed" probably five times when I asked him about the offer. He's high school teammates with Javon McKinley and seems to really like Notre Dame. I think the Irish could be working a package deal angle here, a la Nicco Feritta and Aliz'e Jones.
- Notre Dame is recruiting Oregon commit Troy Warner as a free safety. Todd Lyght told him Friday, that the Irish are going to continue to recruit him. He - in my opinion - was the top defensive back at the tournament by a wide margin on Saturday and would obviously be a huge addition to the Notre Dame secondary. He played above his three-star ranking.
- Some might wonder why Notre Dame offered Jalen Hall on Friday, but the 2018 wide receiver physically is just there. I was told Mike Sanford was shocked by Hall's size. The same can be said about myself.
- Speaking of Sanford, the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach ate lunch with three-star quarterback Patrick O'Brien on Friday. O'Brien said the talks weren't very serious, but he's a prospect that Notre Dame could eventually get involved with, if certain things play out that way. The family claims to be life-long Irish fans and Nebraska just offered.
- Rivals100 running back Greg Johnson had a Notre Dame visor on. Johnson is a 2017 prospect that hasn't been offered by the Irish, but has talked with them. He could also play cornerback at the next level.
- Notre Dame plans to see 2018 defensive back Houston Griffith sometime within the next few weeks. He holds an early Illinois offer and visited South Bend for a spring practice.
That's all I got for now. I'm headed to the Rivals Camp Series in Cleveland, put I'll keep rolling out the content when I'm not driving.
