A lot of good, or even great, coaches were not top flight players in college. I think Tommy may have the mentality to be a decent QB coach. At least I hope so if these rumors are true.

This hire was obvious in time. Grew up the son a respected head coach. Ended up being a productive quaterback at Notre Dame despite barely even being good enough to play in South Bend, and has long been called a very gifted football mind, despite his lacknow ability.

Guys, he's not being hired as an OC. He's being hired as Brian Kelly's QB coach whennhe's not with the QB's. Kelly will call the plays. Rees will work with QB's in position drills and on the sideline and free Kelly up to be the HC when need be, but Kelly will takeover as QB coach in all the team periods. Long will coach TE's, and likely be up I the box s well as game plan with Kelly on game days.

Don't have much of an opinion on this hire other than to say that it's the type of hire I'd expect. Somebody who already knows the offense, a young guy who can relate to QB's and be emissary between them and Kelly and a guy whose family name has Midwest ties, as he'll likely play an active role in replacing Denbrock's recruiting role in the Midwest...

I'm biased, but I like young, hungry coaches, who work under veteran leadership. They'recruit just starting out, they have a lot to prove and they'really energetic and tireless workers.

This is a wait-and-see hire for me. Don't love it or hate it.

Not long before he was a 34 year old HC at WKU, Mike Sanford was a very average Boise State QB (backup mostly). The son of a respected coach, with a good football mind, who lacked the physical gifts to be a great QB... The best coaches, are udually these types. They had to use their brain and out work everyone for everything they earned.

I agree!

I love the "clever" put downs of Tommy. Those who can't and who never will criticizing someone who has. I'm talking directly at you pers and anyone else taking aim at Tommy for no reason.

Despite the fact that Rees lacked athleticism to be an effective college QB he was always thought to have a good mental grasp of the game.

Although I would have preferred a QB coach with more experience,
this hire could turn out OK - certainly a consistent type of Kelly hire - a guy who is very familiar with Kelly's game.

agree, we all felt he would be a coach one day; but come on! we heard all the complaints re Sanford's experience, well TR ?

His best consideration is he is not threatening to Kelly. I doubt he can help the QB's as yet. From red cup to red hat!

Footage of the interview....

Nah, just f'ing around. I don't think he'll be good on the recruiting trail.
"So, why did you kick that cop? Was it a bad batch?"

Why don't you ask him yourself when you go to South Bend to tell off BK, Jenkins, and BK? Prove to everyone you are more than just an anonymous message board big mouth.

I agree - Tommy won't be a threat to Kelly - my guess is that just like being the unofficial OC - Kelly will be the unofficial QBs coach and TR will be his assistant.

Re new hires: Kelly's choices for 'new hires' very likely has a lot to do with BK being on the hottest of college FB coaching hot seats - doubt that many experienced coaches would want to sign on at ND for what might turn out to be a 1 year stint!

I think the DC hire might be 'prospecting' for a promotion? No way Kelly survives, and he might at worse get an interview.

With JS running the athletic dept. I would (almost) never count Kelly out.

It would likely take JS close to 1 year to get his nose loosened from Kelly's back side - and how much longer would it take him to clean off all that brown stuff?

Loser. Were you never 21? Did you get drunk at a college party?

Glad you've never F'd up in your 20s.

And if you have, I hope that some message board internet geeks anonymously talk about it whenever your name comes up.

This isn't about me. You and that pers guy are the ones hiding behind a keyboard. Be a man. Ask Tommy yourself or are you nothing more than an anonymous message board "tough guy" who never approached Digger, who has no top level ND connections, and who would never approach BK, Jenkins, Jack, or Tommy about anything other than to open the door for them?

Toby.....these 2 guys are losers. Pathetic worms. Nothing they say is taken seriously.

If only it were true. Rees was the most successful QB in the last 25 yes. He was surrounded by talent, and seemed to take a back seat to better talent at times. He was the victim of a lot of jokes, mostly by wanna be never wases.

He would be a phenomenal hire, it's in his blood.
