Nolan Ziegler Getting More Spring Opportunities For Notre Dame

I think he has ability to do a lot -drop back linebacker, tackling and even spot safety player if necessary.

Not safety. Hes an inside backer now. Playing will and mike
Yeah, sounds like he's our biggest LB with some more room to grow. Would be nice to have some athletic old school lbs in the middle that are 6'3, 240lbs instead of our last few years of 6' 220lbs.

Sneed, Ziegler, Prince need to play a lot this year

Scary if they don't
Agreed. Those 3 along with Bertrand should get the majority of the reps.

And Marist and Kiser should get in but not nearly as much. They should have specific roles and they can help.

But the top 4 guys need to get those major reps

Right now, Zieglar is in the 225 range -- and could probably put a little more on safely. The quickest way to the field immediately looks to be special teams for him -- he still has the rest of spring practice and fall camp to earn more time.

Agree and disagree…..I hope Burnham and gobaira are ready to make plays and are better rushing than marist. Marist really struggled last year, if he doesn’t improve immensely he may not play a ton.

I also wonder if scheme had something to do with it, I feel like it was really easy to see when our lbs were blitzing there for easy to pick up.

Thought I heard 230 and he looks thin still. Difference I hope with him va a lot of our other past recruits that didn’t pan out is he likes physicality to go along with his athleticism.

Burnham is a vyper and Gobaira might be a big end now

Still need depth at LB. No way those 4 guys can last all year. Need a rotation. Marist and Jack will need to play throughout the year to give those guys rest

We played 2 lbs most last year, we’ll see if that is scheme again

That was a mistake last year and thats how you wear your backers out. Bo Bauer getting injured was a big factor in that as well

Kiser still had 305 snaps on defense as the 3rd backer pre Scar game.

Lot of reps to be had at backer

Did we have a problem with LBs that were too small and fast? I thought it was the other way around.

Too small and slow… at times they get devoured by olinemen
There is no such thing as too small. Too tired and overplayed is a thing, Too small is not a thing. A guy like Ausberry is small but shouldn’t be playing 4 quarters. A 5’8 corner can take down Mayer easily if he’s rested. These are not your average 5’8 pussey. These guys are athletes. I saw Ed Reed in person. He’s more like 5’7. He looks tiny, but he’s not a puss. He’d rip Mayers head off. One of craziest little guys I’ve ever met is 5’9 and weighs about 215. Yea, I met Mike Tyson who knocked out every 6’6 dip shit on planet earth. The other is Khabib, who is shorter and about 160 and would probably kill Tyson in 30 seconds.
