However when you look at it at real-time, his shoulder pad the other players pads first and then because of the force of impact the follow though had his helmet hitting the other player's helmet. That would be expected as Nicci!s bibybfollowedvthrough. I would agree it would be targeting if you lead with his helmet and Nicholas only hit his helmet without hitting the shoulder pads. Thus the conundrum that exists with the ruleHey I love ND and I love Nicco's intensity, but as a former official myself, it was without hesitation targeting. So be it. He was playing hard, and if I'm a coach I'm OK with it.
I have qualms with how the rule is not consistently applied, that's true, but I have no qualms at all with the call on Nicco. It was the correct call. But again, we need that type of aggressiveness and heart from all our players. However when you look at it at real-time, his shoulder pad the other players pads first and then because of the force of impact the follow though had his helmet hitting the other player's helmet. Not sure it was targeting... he squarely hit the shoulder pads first...
Iam an official also and the was no way targeting. Shoulder to shoulder contact. A blind man could have seen thatHey I love ND and I love Nicco's intensity, but as a former official myself, it was without hesitation targeting. So be it. He was playing hard, and if I'm a coach I'm OK with it.
Guess we'll agree to disagreeIam an official also and the was no way targeting. Shoulder to shoulder contact. A blind man could have seen that
Diehard, I'm one that feels that was a HORRIBLE call and looked like shoulder to shoulder. I applaud replay looking at it again to make sure the initial call was correct but anyone could tell Nicco wasn't targeting the head or neck. A straightforward rule has become so subjective. Textbook definition of the rule.Guess we'll agree to disagree
Already stated, we'll agree to disagree. I saw it as targeting, per 9-1-4Diehard, I'm one that feels that was a HORRIBLE call and looked like shoulder to shoulder. Targeting and Initiating Contact With the Crown of the Helmet (Rule 9-1-3)
No player shall target and initiate contact against an opponent with the crown (top) of his helmet. When in question, it is a foul.
Targeting and Initiating Contact to Head or Neck Area of a Defenseless Player (Rule 9-1-4)
No player shall target and initiate contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent with the helmet, forearm, fist, elbow or shoulder. When in question, it is a foul. (Rule 2-27-14)
My issue wasn't with your post per see but do you agree that the rule is too subjective when that was the reason for changing it?Already stated, we'll agree to disagree. I saw it as targeting, per 9-1-4
Oh yes, I said earlier that the application of the rule is all over the map. And ND has been on the wrong side a few times (e.g. Torii Hunter vs, Texas, Tuitt vs. Pitt, and Kizer just last week). Officiating is completely random it seemsMy issue wasn't with your post per see but do you agree that the rule is too subjective when that was the reason for changing it?
Certainly possible. That should not be targeting. Does Nicole have to sit out the first half of our opener?I think he aimed for the shoulders, but the USC player lowered his head to absorb the blow. The result was a hit that looked bad.
