Winston named NFL Rookie of the Year

Jameis Winston was named the 2015 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year late Friday after voting by fans.

The former Florida State star and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback was recognized during Pepsi Super Bowl 50 festivities in San Francisco. Winston passed for 4,042 yards and 22 touchdowns -- both franchise records by a rookie -- in 16 games after being selected with the top overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Winston was one of five finalists up for the honor. The other finalists were Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper, Rams running back Todd Gurley, Seahawks wideout/return man Tyler Lockett and Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters.

This is irrelevant to Notre Dame football.

A few interesting facts about Jameis Winston perhaps you didn't know....

Jameis was raised in Alabama and made straight A's all the way through elementary, HS and college. He led his HS team to the State Championship as a Junior and was considered the #1 dual threat 5* QB in the nation coming out of HS. He was the youngest player in history to win the Heisman trophy and he led the Florida State Seminoles to the NC as a redshirt freshman. He was an All American in both baseball and football and was drafted by the Texas Rangers out of HS. The Rangers offered to let him play football at FSU and later play Pro baseball if he liked. Winston decided not to sign. He was a right handed pitcher throwing in the 90's and a switch-hitting batter with a .723 on base plus slugging percentage. While in college he won just about every award you can think of (a list that covers a full page). Winston was choosen #1 in the NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and awarded a $16.7 million signing bonus. He went on in his rookie year to set numerous passing and rushing records (6 rushing TD's) for Tampa Bay. He was the first rookie QB to be selected by the Pro Bowl and had over 4,000 passing yards his first year. And ultimately Jameis was named NFL Rookie of the Year.

These are all amazing and record breaking accomplishments especially for a 21-year-old!

Yes, Jameis Winston was a wild and sometimes crazy young kid while he was a college student but there was never a better all around student athlete or teammate. (Although some would argue a case for Pro baseball and football player Deion Sanders. ;))

Hahahahahahahahaha. When you return from slobbing on Jamies' nob let us all know please.

When he signed with FSU nobody paid much attention because it was sort of a given that he would end up playing pro baseball in lieu of college. Ended up a big surprise to everyone when he chose school and football.

Duo, you will eventually draw him out into the daylight.

A vote by players or coaches or even the media would be much more of an honor. A "fan vote" is next to worthless.

First of all I don't know how a five-star goes unnoticed out of high school, oh is also a thief, a rapist and NFL rookie of the year

Gurley received a trophy for offensive player of the year.

When a certain poster reads this he/she/it is going to have a coronary attack! Would love to see it. A complete meltdown is on it's way.

Re...Tim Terriffic

Argusman is an internet worm hiding behind the anonymity of the net that posts under many different names and actually talks with himself (aka argusman, holy smoke, epiticus, big fella fan, tim terrific and a host of others) due to his lack of self esteem. This childish charade is foisted upon the message board by an adult man of retirement age living in South Florida that has an estranged daughter who attended FSU. He is a drop out of Maryville Teachers College (aka NW Missouri State) and pretends to be affiliated with Notre Dame but never attended the school. He hopes to gain favor from Notre Dame alumni through pretense and accolades. He is the pariah of Rivals, hated by all, estranged by family and has no credibility.
