I honestly can't recall too many drafts where an Irish player wasn't drafted through 6 rounds. It looks like the only player who will get picked up with be Koyak, who obviously should have stayed in school another season. Sad to say but it shows a lack of recruiting and coaching at Notre Dame. Yes we have a young team and if Stanley had gone pro I think he was a first rounder, but that still isn't much.

Anyway it is not a positive thing for this program, kids want to go to big programs thinking they can get into the NFL. I hope the youth we have steps up and produces more this year and we can get some talented recruits, though other programs are dominating the recruiting circuit right now and we are on the outside looking in. Losing top recruiters this past year didn't exactly help but these kids still need to be coached.

Go Irish... let's hope for the best!

Ben Koyack played all 12 games as a freshman. He played all 4 years so he was out of eligibility. All Irish fans know that besides you.

Ouch, easy Bodi! You sound like one of the tough guys who tries to regulate the board. ;)

What happened to Brindza??

When you have 20 starters returning why would anyone expect ND to have a lot of draft picks? This in no way reflects poorly on Notre Dame.......in fact, saying it does is really stupid.

ACC has 47 players drafted and 27 prospects. Second only to the SEC.

Kids and their parents are smart enough to figure out how young our team was and that 90% of our two deep is coming back in 2015.

The other 4 eligible players (Daniels, Brindza, Riggs, Lombard) should get FA deals.

It is dangerous to pick any single year as an indicator. ND is second in all time draft picks, nothing wrong with that. If this happened four years in a row it might be an issue, One draft, not so much.

It's hard to believe anyone who follows CFB would start a thread being so far out of touch. The reason ND only had one player drafted is the very reason ND is expected to be a final four team this year,

It might impress a lot of kids in HS the fallacy of building your entire future completely upon NFL expectations rather than getting a quality education while playing 'college' football.

A Lot of those kids that thought the recruiting pitch: 'not having to go to class' and just concentrating on football, was a great place to go, are awakening to a harsh new world this morning! Skip the hard work or character building responsibilities and the 'truth will find you out'.

How many get drafted? How many stick? VS how many dreams?

Stop making sense please!

Now that we are told by the board members that everyone is coming back and hence few drafted, and all now are RKG's of Kelly's choosing, if we go 8-4 or forbid, 7-5, will anyone start to question the caliber of the head coach? Or will the apologists and excuse makers continue to blindly drink the Kool-Aide and nod their heads in continued approval?

Stanley would have been drafted in the earlier rounds and Day would have also gotten drafted. Some of the better NFL coaches like kids who stay in school because they get valuable training and playing time. The NFL cba gives teams very little time to develop players due to restrictions on practice time in pads.

The 2014 season is a example of what happens to a team decimated by injury and having the integrity to discipline students for taking short cuts. The final W/L total is not a reflection of the excellent coaching or the talent at Notre Dame.

If you want to "win at all costs" why not cheer for FSU and celebrate players who are drafted where only one got a degree and more than half had criminal
issues including rape, robbery and domestic abuse!

Notre Dame has plenty to be proud of and one of my few complaints is that we have any association with the likes of the ACC and a rancid place like FSU!

What if? What if? What if we win 11+ games? Will the Kelly haters give Kelly any credit? Or will they stay like blind mice eating their own turds?

doubt that we will need, nor hear excuses; but temper the expectations to realistic levels.
This team is probably 10-2.

The addition of Sanford=5* recruit.

that door swings both ways.

Quote from Holy Smoke aka big fella fan aka epidicus aka argusman aka a dozen or so others:

"-My knowledge of Notre Dame is minimal? I and my family have been hopnored at half time, has yours?"

Bwahahahahahahahahahah!

Kelly is a top 5 coach in CFB.

No he isnt. A guy that hasn't come close to winning a "BCS" bowl is not a top five coach. Top five coaches don't lose to Tulsa, Michigan, USF, Pitt, and Northwestern. What coach Kelly is, is the most average college coach out there. You will all see, finally, this coming season when he goes 8-4 or worse. Schedule is brutal, he's an excuse maker, but 10 guys will get drafted. Something doesn't add up.

Argus = The gift that keeps on giving.

A broken record. No one takes him seriously.

When you return nearly every starter on both sides of the ball, it's hard to have guys drafted. It's as simple as that.

Is that a good thing? These ND players and coaches have no idea how to stop Navy or Georgia Tech. ND's season is over week 3. I guarantee you that idiot Kelly has no idea how much the southern baptist Paul Johnson hates ND.

We all know how Kelly handles the pressure moments. He chokes. Don't look past UVA guys. They beat a loaded Louisville team last year that ND couldn't beat.

The jury is still out on Coach Kelly but he went 12 and 1 with the team that had the most talent and experience and according to many experts we have even more talent and depth this year. I expect a 14 and 0 season. All Guns are Blazin !!

Navy is generally a hard team to stop. Ask the defending national champion Buckeyes. They had their hands full as well. Navy wears you down. Check their opponents records the following week last season (3-9 or something similar). Georgia Tech is Navy, with BCS level talent. I think this is a make-or-break year for Kelly, personally. Schedule is difficult, but if we are healthy, and don't make the playoff, something is wrong.

Here are our UDFA signings from what I've been able to find:

Daniels - Vikings
Brindza - Lions
Riggs - Titans
McDaniel - Cowboys

Georgia Tech was really good last year. I'm not sure how much they return, but I know their QB comes back, and he made their offense go. They won 6 of their 7 last games, the only loss being to FSU by 2 points. They finished it off by whipping Mississippi State in the Orange Bowl - the same MSU team that had spent several weeks at #1 during the season. And when you factor in our defense's awful performance against Navy last year, I think that GT game has the potential to be one of our toughest this year.

Seriously I am the one out of touch when you are claiming "ND is expected to be a final four team this year" lol that is classic!

It is all good.. when originally writing this I got mixed up on Koyak, my mistake, and I knew we had younger players as well as a couple others who could have went pro but didn't. Next year, if all stay healthy, we could have 3 first rounders in Stanley, Jaylon, and Day or Russell so years change, etc... At the same time I still can't recall when this program only had 1 kid chosen in the NFL draft?

Hey whatever you want to believe is fine. I see people on this topic making legitimate arguments against what I said and I agree with some of you. Of course I see people like "Big Fella" and some others who think we are going unbeaten or to the playoffs and I really can't understand the thought process. Still the fact is that the schools getting the big recruiting classes like Ohio St., Bama, USC, etc.. are the ones getting kids drafted on a continuous basis year over year. Actually, in the case of USC, here is an example of a school that was limited in recruiting yet somehow still managed to get better talent. Now they had a huge class last season, since their limitations are over, and this year they are already blowing up. Not something I would ever want to see from a program we have to play each season.

In terms of this coming season I thought a 9-10 win season, plus a bowl win, were probable with Malik and EG and I am still sticking with that number in hopes Malik can get it done. I do think Kelly has to run the ball more now, but because he is stubborn I am not sure and that is a concern. Defense will have to make a huge improvement and that is possible with Joe and Russell back, plus other kids learning more. We need a good pass rush to help our secondary because it is average even with Russell back there. It would help a lot and if BVG only has to blitz one extra player it would be a great help overall.

Anyway I sometimes go off a little more than I should about our program, so I am not bitter about some calling me out. More of it is of course frustration and for the logical people writing back I appreciate the slap in the head or good arguments against what I write. Go Irish!
