I don't watch the NFL much at all anymore but I watched the Chiefs vs Bills game.
I found all the social justice advertising on the players helmets and in the endzone very distracting. It took away from my enjoyment of the game.
All it takes is a village. Give peace a chance. Make love not war. Why can't we all just get along. I would like to teach the World to sing.
What the hell has Roger Goodall done to this once great league? He is turning it into NASCAR with all the ads. I have ADD so I get distracted enough without all the sayings.

If you were able to look past all that, you saw four entertaining and great football games this past weekend. In fact, those may have been the best 4 NFL playoff games I have seen in many years.
No defense. In the 80's we had GREAT QB'S but we had GREAT defenders like Lawrence Taylor or Bruce Smith or Mike Singletary or Ronnie Lott.

*** NFL has become flag football. It is all about the QB and receivers. QB's running around sliding is wimpy. And most of the safetys and cornerbacks don't even try to make tackles.

I will take the NFL from the 70's or 80's anyday.

You may have a point there. I am a lifelong Bears fan, so the 1985 Bears team will forever hold a special place in my heart. Now, that was a defense! They won their 2 playoff games that year by pitching shutouts against the Giants and the Rams, and if not for a fumble deep in their own end of the field, I suspect they would have shut out the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

"I will take the NFL from the 70's or 80's anyday"

And that is why we have many of the rules in place today -- while football then was a lot more rougher, more a team concept, the many cheap fouls that were committed (you mention "QB's running around sliding is wimpy" -- there is NO NEED to smack a QB who has given themselves up -- and no need for a QB to try and take on a LB or a charging DB), the unnecessary shots to the head (which has led to many lawsuits) has altered the way the game is played now.

And if teams are investing millions into a franchise QB -- no doubt they want to protect that investment (to the extent they can). And yes, NFL football has become more QB/WR friendly -- fans want to see scores!

I don’t expect ball carriers to be Walter Payton, but I get sick of guys going out of bounds and being satisfied with a first down. The Chiefs game I saw guys staying in bounds and it was more entertaining.

didn’t they make a movie about the NFL - few years back? “Men in Tights”

The whole country disagrees with you. The NFL has something like 90 of the top 100 rated shows watched this year. If your political leaning ruined your expierence thats a you problem not a society problem.
The whole country disagrees with me? Cool.. That makes me a black sheep.
My political leaning isnt the problem. In fact I didnt see any politicaI ads. So theres that.
I Just think it is distracting to have anything written outside of football on helmets or the field. Like I said, I have ADD and will read anything I see in front of me--so it takes away my concentration
I also find it very cheesy. And you guys need to lighten up a bit. Did you not catch my pokes at 70's Coke ads-- like to teach the world to sing---The vietnam protest --make love not war. The Rodney King "why cant we just get along? All attempts at humor.

The end zone said--- We can all do this together.. I believe. That is so cheesy. Lets end racism---No kidding-- Racism is bad. But it is so super cheesy to put on a helmet. Hate is bad--no kidding. Or Love your neighbor? Or dont steal?
What if they wrote Abortion is murder on the back of a helmet? That would not be right either at a NFL game, IMO. But that is just food for thought since you brought up politics.
Bottom line for me-- A professional sport like the NFL should not put advertising or anything else except for the players name and number. And the end zone should have the teams names if anything.
And I admit I would have enjoyed the games better if the Bucs or Bills won. :(

You don't even have to be a lifelong bears fans to love the 85 bears. Everyone loves the 85 bears ! That maybe one of Dan Marinos greatest accomplishments when he lit up the 85 bears Defense on that Monday night football game.
I am a lifelong Giants fan and always love DEFENSE !

Consider also, that he wouldn’t let the Dallas Cowboys honor the five slain police officers who were ambushed by a black radical.

The 85 Bears might not have been the "85 Bears" if the Patriots hadn't got white hot and did just enough to win those playoff games.
Everyone wanted to see the Dolphins/Bears rematch from earlier in the year.
Marino was definitely scoring some points in that game. Might not have won but he had that ultra quick release that killed those all out blitzes of the 46 defense.

That message has absolutely nothing to do with the ratings.
Fans of the game...betting...many reasons why people can't help themselves and must watch but it's got absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with those trendy little messages.

To add...if the NFL and these athletes want to make a real difference then they need to make a damn difference. Instead of grand standing and spewing horseshit from their cozy donociles while on Twitter...how about go to Chicago every week and make a difference in the 20 plus young black men getting murdered. Every damn week.
Perhaps it's not really murder if it's black on black crime.?.
Just wondering....

If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

Yeah, that MNF game was hard for Bears fans to take, especially after Da Bears had won their 3 previous games by a 104-3 margin. Interestingly, the Dolphins figured out how to beat the Bears by having Marino do some rollouts away from Richard Dent. Marino was never the most mobile QB in the world, but that strategy was able to negate the rush the Bears were able to put on other teams. If that Bears defense had any weakness, it was in the secondary, and that game showed that. The front 7 the Bears put on the field was second to nobody. You knew it was the Dolphins night when Marino threw a pass that bounced high off Dan Hampton's helmet and landed 30 yards downfield in the arms of Mark Clayton for a TD.

I had heard stories after the game of Mike Ditka and Buddy Ryan getting into a big shouting match during halftime. Ditka wanted them to play more nickel but Ryan wasn't going be told how to run his D.

You do have a point. The numbers are up this year compared to last year. The numbers are down compared to ten years ago. Baseball also. Look at the 1980’s all star game numbers compared to the WS numbers. SB numbers are trending down. I like Whole Foods stance. ( nice supermarket also). No political statements of any kind. No blue lives matters. Pro Life or pro choice. Nothing. Strictly a supermarket.
PS say a prayer for the souls of two NYPD cops killed in Harlem this week. Two Latinos born & bred in the big apple. Also three Baltimore fireman killed yesterday.

Viewer Ratings were UP this year because this year’s games were very close with many coming down to the wire

There were no sayings on players helmets or in the end zone today at Arrowhead.. No distractions at all ! It was easy for me to concentrate on the GAME itself ! I bet there were alot of complaints last week and the NFL set it straight !

Leave politics and anything else but football out of the NFL !!

I really liked the fans singing the National Anthem

Didnt notice it last week, didnt notice it this week. Again dont know why you're bitching about something as noble as End Racism. Never seen a thread bitching about the month of October when the NFL wears pink & have Defeat Cancer slogans. Says alot about you though.

Edge of endzones had "Advance Social Justice" written.

The OP uses some ideological cliches in every post depending on the subject and it’s rather embarrassing.

NFL has created a product that produces 50-50 games every weekend. The popularity of the sport isn‘t going to change despite the regurgitated nonsense OP posted.

The numbers for every sport and every network are down due to the wide availability of non-network entertainment choices.
