2023 four-star RB Jeremiyah Love’s recruitment has been unusual.
When Notre Dame offered Love a scholarship on Feb. 28, he did not know much about the Irish. He was also not entertaining winter unofficial visits to instead focus on his academic interests. Meanwhile, schools like Georgia and Texas A&M followed suit with offers — Alabama, Oregon, Michigan and others had already targeted him.
Then, Love visited Notre Dame on March 17 and became particularly interested in the Irish. He also saw Arkansas, Georgia, Michigan, Missouri and Oregon on unofficial visits. That tour of schools set up a competitive recruitment as Love then chose to officially visit Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan and Texas A&M.
Once the summer recruiting dead period hit, Love basically narrowed it down to two schools: Notre Dame and Texas A&M.
Love returned to Texas A&M during the late-July quiet period, which signaled the Aggies had the slight lead and other schools had work to do. However, Notre Dame never faltered.
The Irish hosted Love for a game day visit Sept. 10 and put themselves in the driver’s seat to land the highly-ranked four-star prospect. ND even held onto their momentum with Love after he went on a game day visit to Texas A&M the following week.
Now that the dust has settled — two weeks since Love’s last visit — I feel confident enough to file a Rivals FutureCast prediction in favor of Notre Dame.
Although other schools gave Love many intriguing opportunities on and off the field, the Irish have always been the one constant in his recruitment. Notre Dame has become a family favorite, and there is motivation from Jeremiyah to make a difference the day he arrives at Notre Dame.
There are no absolutes in recruiting, and there’s still time for schools to knock the Irish off their lead, but I ultimately like Love to pick the Irish when it comes time for him to make a decision. There is no commitment timeline, but I expect Love to announce a decision within the next month.
In the meantime, Love is looking to get to campus for the Stanford game Oct. 15, which would certainly bode well for the Irish.
If Love chooses (and signs with) the Irish, it would be a massive recruiting win for head coach Marcus Freeman, running backs coach Deland McCullough and the rest of the Notre Dame staff.
