"Hughes totally gave Brad Shearer his lunch. Ernie knew that Shearer (Texas born All American Outland trophy winner) had said some things that weren't very complimentary about him. We all tried to keep a low profile about it before the game and not snap back at them until we got them on the field. Ernie and all of us just closed down shearer." ND center Dave Huffman.

“When the papers reported Shearer said I was just an ordinary blocker and that he’d faced better offensive guards from Oklahoma and Arkansas it made me mad. We didn’t double team him. We just came off the ball fast. Huffman came over and got him when I pulled…There’s only one way to shut someone’s mouth and that’s on the field.” Ernie Hughes

Shearer was credited with one unassisted tackle all afternoon…..

We need to bust these guys up, again.....

We are 8-2 lifetime vs Texas and riding a 4 game winning streak going back to 1971.

The current streak: we beat them in '71. '78. '95, '96.

The rivalry goes back to 1913 a 30-7 ND win in Texas. We lost to them in 1934 and 1970.

It's been 45 years since their last win vs us.... Time to drop the hammer.
