Hey everyone,
As an non-credentialed, public observer, I went downtown today to watch ND during their 50 minute inside the palace of Lebron James.
Not too much can be gleaned from this practice....pretty much just a shoot around, but the Irish did do a fairly intense five-on -five, full court scrimmage for 15 minutes.
J. Grant looked good, hit a three pointer, made a tough bucket in traffic. Looked to be in a good shooting tempo.
Probably the best thing was Pat Connaughton hitting two three-pointers in a row to close off the scrimmage, including one from well beyond the arc. I know one could maybe argue his shooting has been sub-par since really the first half of the Duke game. Was good in see him hit a couple bombs in live action.
Auguste struggled from free throw line.
Katenda and Geben are thick kids for their age...going to be big strong dudes. Excited to see what they do down the road.
Overall, pretty focused team. My wife was with me and said "I thought this would be a lot more jovial." The practice was laid back in nature, but the team looks focused and eager for the next challenge in that laid back setting.
I also stuck around for a good chunk of Kentucky's practice. First, their fan support is amazing. ND had a good amount of people there to watch, but this was AN EVENT when Kentucky took the floor. A lot of folks there.
It should be an event. They are just so much taller than everyone else, you quickly realize in person that this is a team filled with guys who will be in the NBA, who across the board are 2-3 inches taller than ND.
I love both Connaughton and Vasturia as defensive players....Kentucky's small forward is 6-10 (Trey Lyles)! Will be interesting to see if ND's solid defensive play from their 2 and 3 spots carries over to a potential game against UK. The Cats look like a total different animal, both on TV and in person.
Regardless, ND looked confident, purposeful and ready to rock.
I am no hoops expert, but thought I would pass along.
