MZ Out For Season

After watching that play I'm not surprised. Will he be eligible for a medical redshirt and still have two years left? And how long of a recovery is this? Will he be ready for the start of next season?

What I just heard on the post game show was EG was supposed to be the starter. Apparently, he was taking the most snaps with the First team. But, EG was also told that his job wasn't safe. His transfer took the staff by surprise and he showed no indication that he was leaving. If this is true and I have no reason to believe that it is not, EG screwed the program big time, graduate or not. Our back up QBs were denied reps because EG was taking the reps.

Why is a fractured ankle season ending? Does it need surgery? A bowl game is 3.5 months away. Does it take that long to heal and rehab?

I'm listening to the program too. Its the same reason some here have made negative comments about Golson leaving. Often, they have been harshly criticized for doing so.

Probably because they aren't pros and aren't getting paid. Folston and Zaire are 20 year old college players, they have their entire lives to think about and ND isn't going to risk their livelihoods for a possible 1, 2 or 3 game return. If ND is 10-0 and they are 100% healthy, maybe we'll see one of them come back but not if the team has "nothing" to play for. I have no idea if that's even possible though.

Three years left with fifth year if he gets the medical hardship.

Zaire will not get a medical hardship, those are usually for injuries requiring more than a year recovery, see Jarad Grace, he's redshirted 2013, played a bit in 2014, is out 2015, that leaves 2016-2017, two years left.

It would be unlikely if they denied the medical hardship after playing one game. He will have three years remaining.

I don't wish Golson ill, but I certainly don't wish him well. I know he is a Notre Dame graduate, but he is a weasel, and I'd never hire him after his short tour in the NFL ends.

I said this exact thing back in May. Either Kelly is an idiot or EG is scum of the earth. It's one or the other. Kizer would be much better off with those spring reps.

I think we see Wimbush soon. Like Zaire, once Brandon gets on the field, it might require an injury to get him off of it.

Go Irish!

I must concur. EG showed little loyalty and little class by bailing out on the program, especially when ND brought him back as the starter after his suspension for cheating. But then again, Brian Kelly hasn't shown himself to be a bastion of loyalty either.

I totally disagree about EG.

Kelly likely told him they were moving forward with MZ and barring injury (like just happened) EG would see the end of his NFL chances. My guess is that Kelly even called Jumbo and set up the move for EG to go to FSU where they had no QB and everyone knows Jumbo salivated over getting a talent like EG, even if he was second team.

How was that scenario, the most likely, any display of disloyalty.

Now all things being equal and MZ sidelined , EG must hate being stuck at the FSU cesspool.

Loyalty come oneman we are fans we are loyal, 99% of college football players go to college to become pros. I don't hate on Everett for leaving you have 1 year left if you're competitive you wanna sit on the bench for it?

The report on EG starting came from Jack Nolan and Reggie Brooks. Two guys with close ties to the program and who attend practices. They would not say it publically if there wasn't an ounce of truth to it.

Less tha 3% of D1 football players ever get an NFL check. The notion that 99% think they are going pro is just dumb and certainly not accurate.

EG leaving is a blessing. I'm not so sure his turnovers were an accident. Kizer had time to learn the system and he will be fine. I really think the weakness of the team is the defensive backfield. I also think Morgan and Grace and Martini need to get playing time.
If we can get past Ga. Tech Kizer and Wimbush should share time against a weak UMASS team to gain experience before we head down to Clemson.

Sorry but ND showed some loyalty by bringing EG back after he cheated & got suspended like a fool. He was the starter and his skills eroded tremendously as the season went along, causing coach Kelly to look for an alternative in Zaire, after being overly loyal and sticking with EG for way too long. Sorry but EG acted like a weasel by bailing on ND after taking the majority of snaps in the Spring, after he was allowed to get his degree. Weak sauce. But as I said, BK acted like a weasel 1 day after the title game fiasco against Bama, so EG probably learned from the best.

Ok boys. It's going to take defense, hitting some damn field goals, and a huge running game to see this thing through. This short yardage failings are a major problem. Missed Field Goals are a problem. Red Zone is a problem. This was going to be a rough go if this nonsense continued, MZ or no MZ.

I agree they looked like doo doo with Zaire in there, so the problems weren't necessarily related to his injury. If it's going to take a huge running game to see this thing through, I'm not too sure BK is that guy unfortunately.

So the world is black and white in your eyes. Either we Nuke Iran or we don't. Wow how did you even graduate high school?

Irish Jack, agree w/ this 100%. EG should be at ND w/ his teammates. He sold out his ND teammates and the ND fans IMO. It's too bad really. Going to take some serious magic for D to overcome these two very bad injuries. Losing a great RB like Folston and now your up and coming QB is going to be tough to overcome. I have never been a fan of this read option offense for the reason of what happened today. ND cannot continue to run the QB now that they are down to Kizer and then what a true freshman ?

I have to call BS on the EG story. I think he knew he might be sharing reps, or that MZ was the man getting the reps. But remember, he didn't transfer when he was academically ineligible and could have easily then. I do believe he felt this was his best shot to get him to the next level. It's not like he left ND when they had no QB. MZ breaking his ankle was unfortunate, but not EG's fault. Remember, he did take ND to a NC. How soon we all forget.

Transfer back when he was academically ineligible ?- at that time - he knew he was the sure started when he came back to ND. And his mindset was the following - "I'm guaranteed to be the starter and also come back to use ND to get my ND degree - why would I transfer. Plus I get to take a year off and spend time in beautiful San Diego" EG wasn't going anywhere except back to ND after a year off for vacation.

Wow, you must be very close with Everett to know his mindset, exactly what he was thinking, and know this was a planned "vacation". Sorry, I disagree. I think he is doing what he thinks is best for himself, and his future. I'm sure we would do no different if we were in his shoes.

Can't blame EG for transferring. He was sick and tired of Kelly screaming at him every time he came off the field. Kelly destroyed this kids confidence.

I don't think so. They will allow the 6th year if the the 2 years he didn't play were beyond a player's control. Only if Zaire's freshman redshirt year was because of an injury or some other hardship can he be granted a 6th year, not because he simply didn't play.
