Merriweather

Colzie is hurt, James isn’t ready. Thomas and Greathouse are both ahead of Tobias and tonight showed why. I think Rico had passed him too

Should make him watch Ken Jeong trying to be funny videos every time he makes mistakes!

I suspect it's a confidence issue. His vibe on the field is that he doesn't seem sure of himself. Keep challenging him to show up and work hard and hope that light bulb gets turned on soon.

He wasn’t great but he’s a true frosh and Merriweather was worse. Rico is a solid 4th Wr when everyone is healthy,
Absolutely Tobias was worse. But Rico was bad tonight. Dropped pass, couldn't create any seperation at all.

Merriweather came in with such hype! ND desperately...I mean DESPERATELY needs better WR play. I feel bad for Hartman. He came here and has no one but Evans to consistently catch his passes.

Light needs to go on for Merriweather, or it's time for him to hit the portal. ND MUST find speed & playmakers @ WR!

He looks just like Lorenzo Styles last year. Styles came into the season with a ton of hype. Then he started dropping lots of passes which led to him get less looks and he faded and then transferred.

Rico was bad tonight as well
Different issue.

Tobias might be a solid wr with time, but he's not a lead caliber kid today.

Now everyone is seeing why maybe he wasn't ready for a bigger role last year. The issue really is that he had 1 good route and td last year and has a big cheerleader in Irish Breakdown, however at no time has he ever been presented as a #1 wr outside of expectations which now we're obviously incorrect. The guy isn't a bust...he's a sophomore that some journalists expected a big jump from and it hasn't happened. It doesn't mean it won't, and he should be given the chance to develop.

We as fans need to accept that he has a lot more development and we as a collective were wrong.

Having said that, let the kid develop and be thankful that we have a coach bringing in better and better talent.

It's also very obvious at this juncture that Jaden Thomas is the wr that everything works through and we need him back and healthy as soon as possible.

It’s obvious to everyone but Patrice

I get the criticism....the performance speaks for itself. But keep in mind, there is alot of youth at wideout on this team. It appears to me that the mental aspect (timing and technique) is where the gap is...moreso than speed. Now it looks like confidence took a hit. Practice, practice, then practice. Shake it off or ride the pines....This team cannot afford to slip back into the Michael Mayer or nothing mode. Evans is already doing his part.

exactly.

We need Jayden Thomas back. That is clear. And getting Greathouse back will be important, too.

Calling Merriweather a bust seems awfully premature to me. Did he have a good game against Duke? Clearly not. I believe he had one of the highest snap counts from the game, but his production was simply woeful: 5 targets, 0 receptions (including at least 1 drop) and 2 penalites to show for it. That won't cut it.

That said, it would be a mistake to write Merriweather off. I have watched several interviews of Tobias, and he seems like a great kid. Humble, low key, and no attitude problems. Watching him play, he seems to be suffering from a crisis of self-confidence and a lack of focus. Sort of like Lorenzo Styles last year. Chansi Stuckey seems like a good position coach; maybe he can figure out how to shake the demons from Tobias' head and get him back on track. I think once Tobias has a couple of good games, he will start to blossom. At least I hope so. Tobias has a lot of physical gifts. But sometimes it is your attitude and what is in the mind that are the most important gifts of all.

Sounds about right. Merriweather is on the front side of the learning curve. He needs to be kept in the fold and mentored....He has the tools...they aren't in sync at this particular time. Those that want to write him off are short-sighted....imo.

At some point this year I believe Tobias will have a huge game. He might be a feast or famine type guy this year. But he has the tools. And at some point a defense is going to disregard him at their peril.

Safe to say he is looking like a bust at this point. Not as fast as I thought, average route runner, weak hands and mental lapses. Where were Deion Colzie and Braylon James?
James should play some snap. All Merriweather does okay at is blocking. I’d bet money James is a better pass catcher.

Is it the coach or the wide recievers? I still don't know if Stucky is the guy? Didn't the coach we wanted go from Purdue to Washington and man there passing game is awesome.
