I spoke with 2024 four-star point guard target Trent Perry Thursday afternoon. Perry reported an offer from the Irish Tuesday. He attends Los Angeles (Calif.) Harvard Westlake and plays for the Vegas Elite Basketball Club on the Nike EYBL circuit.
Perry said he developed a prior relationship with Irish associate head coach Kyle Getter during his tenure at Virginia. Getter and head coach Micah Shrewsberry watched Perry in the first session of the Nike EYBL in Atlanta last weekend.
“My first impression is that he is a down-to-earth family man,” Perry said of Shrewsberry. “When I talked to him for the very first time I felt comfortable exchanging conversation. I believe that he cares for his players and wants them to succeed.”
In his sophomore season, Perry helped Harvard Westlake win the CIF Open Division state championship in March. He finished the season averaging 16 points, seven rebounds and six assists per game. He was also named Mission League Most Valuable Player.
“I do everything on the floor,” Perry said. “Assist, score, rebound, guard the best player … I just want to win. I am a vocal leader and try to communicate with my guys to make sure we’re all on the same page.”
The 6-foot-4, 175-pound point guard is rated as a four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class. He is ranked No. 74 overall in the class.
Perry holds 12 total offers including Notre Dame, Colorado, Oklahoma, Stanford, UCLA and Vanderbilt. He said academics, interactions with coaches on and off the court and early playing opportunities will be the most important factors in his recruitment.
