Matt Hegarty to transfer from ND

I feel bad that this makes me happy. Excited to get some of the younger more physical interior linemen on the field. Wish him the best and hope he stays healthy. He must have seen writing on wall.

He should drop down a notch. He was consistently getting blown up in the UNC game. Maybe New Mexico with Davie is a good spot?

It stinks to lose a starter but best of luck to the young man.

Makes the probable OL 2 deep look Something like:

Stanley, Nelson, Martin, Elmer, McGlinchey

Bars, McGovern, Harrell/Hoge, Montelus, Biven

People who are we know or can reasonable assume are potentially in flux are:

Golson
Barrati
Ishaq
Grace
Carlisle

Transfers for non 5th year guys may come out of no where, a lot of people didn't except Barrati to come back but BK has said he is fully cleared. We shall see.

I hate to say it, but this is a very good thing. It sounds like the coaches told him that he was going to be losing snaps to younger players. Anyone that was paid attention last year saw that he was the weak link on the offensive line. Hopefully some of these younger guys will be more physical.

can you say Ara64 what the other shockers might be or are you just guessing they'll be more on the way

Hegerty seemed to say as much in his statement:

"Unfortunately, I have already had to miss a precious amount of football battling back from my stroke, and I value every rep and opportunity going into my final year of college ball that much more. My goal is to contribute this season, continue to develop my skills and pursue my dream of playing in the NFL. Because of this goal, I have asked for a transfer to play at another school where I can contribute more on the field. Notre Dame has amassed formidable depth on the O-line and have many very talented players to fill all positions.
"So I wish everyone at ND the best this year and especially to my 15 brothers on the offensive line as they prepare for the 2015 season."

It's true. I haven't seen anything in the major media or ESPN yet, but Goston didn't make the roster.

Go Irish!

Folson took his spot.

Colston played great in hoops tonight!

Good luck to Matt. Maybe he will end up at Cincinnati or Miami of Ohio. Seem to be good landing spots for the former ND guys. Hope he has a good final year and gets a shot at the NFL. Kids been through a lot and deserves a good break.

Best of luck to him. It appears the staff let him know that he might have to change positions and fight for PT this year, and he decided to transfer for his 5th year to ensure a starting role. I don't blame him, and from ND's standpoint, it's unfortunate but necessary that we lose a few players between now and Aug. 1.

How has john montelus progressed? He seemed big time coming out of hs now people project a sophomore to start ahead of him. Not dissing nelson but it seems that all under classmen struggle on the interior of the ol. According to former staff elmer was supposedly the most advanced ol we have had and he has struggled his first two years. Just wondering about elmer havent heard one good thing about him since he arrivwd

Hegarty is a great representative of what we all want ND to represent - pure class. I was excited when he committed. He overcame a stroke and played his heart out. Well done Matt! Thank you!! Notre Dame can be proud of alumni like you.

We can use him on the OL at BC this year. Plenty of playing time available with 4 starters graduating.
