I'm hearing that Malik will be transferring - very sad to see him leave. Feel like if given a true opportunity he'd excel. Don't blame BK for going w/ DK in 2016 especially after the 2015 season DK had.

It's just unfortunate - this season turned out so bad and the rose bud no longer shines on the program or BK for that matter. Can't blame Malik one bit for transferring.

ND football has a toxic feel about it w/ BK at the helm. Maybe I'm reading too much into that part of it - but just seems like there is a lot of bad mojo w/ ND right now.

Malik got screwed .... not given much of a chance .... had zero turnovers in all his starts and backup playing time ... Kizer is good ... but Kelly has a history of going with wrong QB

Disagree, hey I like Malik and wish him great success, but through circumstances, he was beat out by a better QB. Kizer was the correct choice

Not a big surprise he is leaving. I wonder if Kizer will be leaving also? I imagine so.

Kizer was the correct choice. Geez.
MZ will go somewhere and play but he did not get screwed about starting! He got screwed playing for an incredibly inept head coach.

ND's fan base grows less informed and less sophisticated as time passes and the sub alumns pasx too!

MZ is one of the lucky ones that can escape Kelly; he must feel a huge sense of relief.
DK ought consider the same; by way of the draft.

On recruiting, why in heck would any top prospect want to come to ND while Kelly is the H.C.?
You need the annual talent infusion and that has not happened on D for quite a number of sessions; and this one is just beginning to simmer! it may be a meltdown.
If a top prospect considered Kelly, I would actually question the kids serious desire to play football; for me these kids will never play football like their lives or livlihood depended on it.

DK is good but I felt with the inexperience WR and porous defense MZ was the better option and I said so before the season. Instead we put the entire offense on a QB that had marginally better ball security than Golson. What's done is done.

This coming from the boob who said he should have been moved to defensive back.

It can become a problem when you recruit top prospects for the same position. They all want to play and get to the NFL. Nobody wants to ride the bench. Nobody wants to share playing time. N.D. sometimes recruits too much talent at some positions , and too little at others.

26 TD's to 9 Int's is not a bad TD:Int ratio. Golson had 5 more Int's and many more fumbles in 2014, so no, DK's ball security wasn't marginally better, it was a lot better and both EG and DK worked with O-lines that struggled to protect them. That's not to say DK couldn't have played better, but he was the best option at QB and not just because he was the better passer. MZ was faster but DK seemed to be the smarter, more effective runner.

This was a lock to happen since the Nevada game week.

Actually it would of been a good idea. John Lynch from Stanford started out as a QB. Wasn't going to be the starter, but the coaches realized he had a warriors mentality like Malik and was a great athlete like Malik. And they moved him to safety where ended up as a All Pacific 12 free safety and then having a long career in the NFL.

Many QB's actually make great safety's or QB'S - if they are athletic - because they have an understanding of what a QB is trying to do in the passing game.

A lot of stud QB on the high school level if they play both ways are usually the starting safety as well.

Seeing how bad out secondary was this season. Probably would of been an astute coaching move by BK to get Malik to do it and buy in.

He'd most likely would still be a part of ND - especially if he got some good playing time as a safety or db. Not too mention he would of been a great leader on a leaderless defense. Probably would of helped us win a few more games.

I know a lot you guys don't like Perse or me for that matter. But, that would of been a great coaching move by BK.

The OL has to dramatically improve for any of our QBs to have a chance in 2017. I don't think the offense is a lost cause. The defense is another matter. No pass rushers will cause the "D" to struggle again in 2017 IMHO.

Kizer being the correct choice because Kelly picked him ? ... think about that for a moment .... or because of 1/2 of one game ? .... because in the end that was apparently all that mattered .... to Kelly anyways ... it was as if he already made up his mind and was just looking for an excuse to pick the guy he wanted .... after the fact it didn't matter if Kizer stunk at any given moment .... which at times he did ... he had the Tommy Turnover leash .... LOOOOOOONNNNNGGGGG

Kizer is good ... and sometimes looked really good ... then again he was downright awful during some stretches though .... If he would've played awful at the wrong time ... who knows

Totally agree. Malik played wonderful football in his limited action. Deshone beat him out fair and square then goes on to give us a season equal to Tommy Rees... None of us saw Deshone's regression coming though we should have... Team 128 needed Malik's leadership, his spark, his decisiveness, his running threat, his enthusiasm every week. I have no doubt he'll be great anywhere he goes.

This team had no leader. Malik would of been that guy. Tough one though to figure out who that starter should of been day 1. DK was too inconsistent. A switch to MZ probably should of been done. And if he goes w/ MZ the entire NC St. game and utlizes a 100% running attack w/ MZ running it every 3rd play -ND wins that game.

How many INT's and fumbles inside the redzone? DK had good numbers but they were against bottom dweller teams. DK needed a dominant WR to rely on or he became too much of a liability if it was on his shoulders.

I like you. But no one in their right mind would want Kizer at safety. He is too tall and gangly ! He is also an offensive player and a decent quarterback. Even Kizer would not want to play safety--he said if the QBing did not work out that he would play baseball instead as a pitcher.
Don't compare yourself to Purse. You are a great Irish fan. Purse could care less if the Irish wins or not. He hardly posts when the team is winning.

DK had 2 turnovers in the red zone: One against NC St. in a hurricane and the other against Army in a blow out. I'm not going to look over EG's red zone TO's but I'm going venture a guess and say he had more. You are the one who said DK made marginally less TO's than EG, I explained how that is objectively not true. EG had many more in 2014 and I'm not even trying to pick on EG. EG suffered the same fate in 2014 that Kizer suffered in 2017. Both regressed because that has been the distinct pattern for QB's under BK. MZ also regressed in 2016. In his limited play time he didn't look nearly as good as he had the previous 2 years. Kizer completely outperformed him when they both played against UT and MZ looked completely lost against Stanford when Kelly benched DK to give the team a "spark." That spark didn't come and I'm not blaming MZ. I'm saying BK is the problem and MZ was not immune to it. I think a few on this board are trying to make a point that maybe MZ should have gotten more PT as if that was the actual issue. They seem to think with regard to the below expectation QB play it was the QB and not BK. I'm saying it was BK. You must disagree.

I wish him nothing but the best, but wherever he goes he'll have competition. He won't just walk into a situation and get handed the ball.

I think everyone can agree, our record would have been better if Zaire was QB1 this season.

This! The O-Line this year was probably the most under-performed unit out there -- maybe a tie with some of Kelly's coaching decisions throughout the year.

This O-Line could not move a HS team off the LOS -- it says a lot when you are 2nd and goal, 3rd and goal (or short yardage situations) -- and the HC has the offense SPREAD OUT across the field -- that is the time to exert your will and power against your opponent.

I think we face the same O-line dilemma that lots of teams do, even in the NFL. It's hard to get an O-line that can be adept at BOTH pass blocking and the power running game. We lean toward pass blocking being the priority, and it often shows in our running game.

Right on.

I wouldn't disagree with that especially if Kelly didn't go mental in the QBs heads, as he has shown with all his QBs at ND, excluding Rees.

You compared Kizer to Tommy Rees? What about this season was equal to Tommy Rees?

We're hoping he considers Pitt. He was recruited by Matt Canada while Canada was at Wisconsin while being recruited by Paul Chryst when Chryst was at Pitt. Not sure if any of you got to see Pitt's offense this year but it is taylor made for a grad transfer like Zaire.
