Here are tonight's Lucky Charms...
In case you've missed my reporting so far, click here for my first big update on the latest with Notre Dame's 2020 offensive recruits that I posted Wednesday at 5:40 p.m. ET. And click here for my second big update, which was this morning at 10:47 a.m. ET.
*** The only two prospects that I hadn't heard on regarding their status in light of the Chip Long news was five-star WR Jordan Johnson and TE Michael Mayer. I heard from Johnson tonight, and he told me that he's "locked in" and that Long's departure does not affect his decision. And as I started typing this message, I just heard from a source close to Johnson who also reiterated that Jordan is also good with his Irish pledge. And just for good measure, a source on the Notre Dame side things also tells me that Johnson has given the ND staff indication that he's good as well. Wide receivers coach Del Alexander had a good visit with Johnson earlier this week too.
*** Mayer will be seeing Notre Dame on Thursday night. I was told at about 7:30 p.m. ET that Brian Kelly and Lance Taylor were en route to see Mayer. I don't have anything new to add from what I posted this morning, but I feel that Mayer will stick with the Irish. It's looking like Notre Dame will go unscathed in the 2020 and 2021 classes with Chip Long out, and that is impressive because Chip Long was an important part of these recruitments. I will update you all on the Mayer situation once I have good, detailed information from good sources to post.
*** Kelly and Taylor met with Notre Dame running back Chris Tyree and his family today. I was told about two hours after the Chip Long news broke that Tyree would be sticking with Notre Dame, and this came from a very good source close to him. So I've had this posted on the board for over 24 hours now, but I'm still seeing a lot of posts of people asking me if Tyree is still solid with Notre Dame. And yes, he is. "Ready to roll and sign early," a source told me regarding Tyree. The home visit today with BK and Lance Taylor went very well. The Irish will be adding the dynamic running back Dec. 18 and he will enroll over the summer.
*** Notre Dame safeties coach Terry Joseph stopped in at Bolingbrook H.S. today in the Chicago area to see top 2021 safety target Justin Walters. Quarterbacks coach Tommy Rees has been the main recruiter in Walters' recruitment from Notre Dame, but Rees was out in Connecticut to see Drew Pyne, and it's important for Joseph to be building a bond with Walters too, considering that he'd be his position coach at Notre Dame. Right now, the vibe is that Michigan and Notre Dame are the top two contenders for Walters.
*** I should have more tomorrow regarding a full updated list on which recruits are coming in for the Echoes Awards Show and/or the bowl practice on Saturday. One name to add to the list is 2022 offensive lineman Carson Hinzman from Wisconsin. The Irish offered him during a game visit in November. Notre Dame commits Blake Fisher and Deion Colzie have confirmed that they're making it in, and 2021 Rivals250 DB Ceyair Wright will also make it in. 2021 Rivals100 RB Donovan Edwards is expected in too but I wouldn't be shocked if he's not able to make it in.
