Here are tonight's Lucky Charms...
*** A couple weeks before committing to Penn State, Severn (Md.) Archbishop Spalding class of 2021 safety Zakee Wheatley landed an offer from Notre Dame. He selected the Nittany Lions May 4, but during a normal year, the Irish would've been considered much more heavily by Wheatley. He wasn't able to visit Notre Dame and committed to the school he was already more comfortable with. From what I'm told, Notre Dame has still been in contact with the Rivals250 prospect, and leading the way is Irish head coach Brian Kelly. Yes, the contact is happening via text message.
*** My sources tell me that Wheatley is solid with Penn State and it doesn't seem likely that he will consider other programs. If he does decide to open things up a bit, then I'm told Notre Dame and Virginia will be a pair of programs he'd look at. Again, I believe he'll remain solid with Penn State, but stranger things have happened, and Notre Dame would be a school he'd want to visit.
*** Earlier today, four-star cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem committed to Texas, which comes with no surprise. Notre Dame offered earlier this year, but he was never someone the Irish pushed very hard for due to various reasons. The Longhorns struck gold as four-star safety JD Coffey also committed to Tom Herman's program today too. Coffey eliminated the Irish from contention a few months back.
*** Notre Dame is taking a look at one of the country's best 2023 wide receivers. Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University School's Brandon Inniss is a national recruit with offers from the likes of Baylor, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Texas and others. Notre Dame doesn't offer too many rising sophomores, but if Inniss' freshman grades do check out, he should receive a scholarship. This kid is a baller.
