Here are tonight's Lucky Charms...
*** Notre Dame already has three defensive end commits (we'll list them as DEs for now and see what happens later) in the 2022 class. Irish pledges Tyson Ford (June 14-16), Aiden Gobaira (June 25-27) and Darren Agu (June 14-16) are all locked in to take their official visits to Notre Dame this summer. Ford, Gobaira and Agu all seem solid to Notre Dame, and their respective official visits will only strengthen their pledge. Notre Dame is going to take another big defensive line class it seems, with the minimum being four and the maximum being six.
*** Las Vegas Bishop Gorman's Cyrus Moss has been a monster priority for Marcus Freeman since he arrived as defensive coordinator earlier this year, but he was a key target for defensive line coach Mike Elston since early in 2020 too. For these big upcoming official visitors such as Moss, June visit season will go a long in determining where these recruits will end up. But I can tell you that right now, there is optimism in South Bend that not only does Notre Dame have a good chance to land the elite edge rusher, but that they lead right now too. Clemson, Oregon, Arizona State and Florida are the other programs in Moss' top five, but there are some folks who think USC and/or Oklahoma can still slide their way back into the mix.
*** There's also plenty of optimism that Notre Dame will land Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral's Anthony Lucas. The feeling with the four-star recruit is that his parents want him at Notre Dame, and following his June 11 official visit, Lucas may feel the same. While Moss is likely not close to making a decision, I could see Lucas popping in favor of Notre Dame if all goes well during his time in South Bend. Even if Notre Dame splits and lands one of Moss or Lucas, I'd count that as a big win for the Irish.
*** Apparently Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic's Donovan Hinish has discussed an official visit with Pittsburgh in June, but I would be shocked if he actually takes that trip. I expect Notre Dame to land Hinish's commitment at some point in June.
*** Arlington (Texas) Martin's Ernest Cooper is scheduled to visit Notre Dame at the end of June, but I think there's a decent chance he doesn't end up taking the trip. He could either decide on a school before that trip or Notre Dame could decide to move on after feeling good after its situation on the D-line board. Cooper could end up in Notre Dame's class, but I think it's more likely not to happen.
*** Finishing here with a quick note in the 2023 class, Vorhees (N.J.) Eastern defensive end James Heard stood out at the Rivals camp in New Jersey on Sunday. The four-star recruit doesn't hold an offer from the Irish yet, but the 6-2, 224-pounder would be fired up if one came his way. "Notre Dame is a dream school of mine," he said. "That would mean a lot."
