Here are tonight's Lucky Charms...
*** While I do believe it'll be interesting to see what happens at USC in terms of their pursuit of CJ Williams with a new coach, both he and Tobias Merriweather are locked in with the Fighting Irish. I wouldn't describe Amorion Walker as locked in. In my talks with Irish source's though, Notre Dame is actually somewhat confident. Walker's family clicked at Notre Dame, but Michigan is not going to slow down their pursuit. Whether or not he visits there again this fall will be telling. One source I spoke with today felt pretty good that even if Walker takes another trip or two from here on out that he will stick with Notre Dame. I believe that will end up being the case.
*** Even if Merriwather, Walker and Williams stick, the Irish still may take a fourth receiver in the 2022 class. Raleigh (N.C.) Millbrook's Wesley Grimes received an offer from Notre Dame a couple weeks ago, and it's very possible that the Irish staff brings him in for an official visit in November. This is being discussed behind closed doors.
Grimes is committed to Wake Forest and seems happy with his commitment. Staying in-state was important to Grimes in the recruiting process, so even if Notre Dame goes all-in on Grimes, it's far from a guarantee that they pull off a flip... We'll have a full story on Grimes in the next couple days with his comments on Notre Dame. He's definitely interested in the Irish, but again, a flip is far from a guarantee.
*** A class of 2024 quarterback who I hear Notre Dame is very excited about is Burlseon (Texas) High's Dylan Raiola. The Irish haven't offered yet, but I expect that to happen. It's just a matter of time. Alabama, Georgia, Texas, USC and others have already offered Raiola, who Rivals ranks on its 2024 top-100 watch list.
*** An addition to the visitor list for this weekend is Mount Juliet (Tenn.) High class of 2023 offensive tackle Ayden Bussell, who holds offers from Eastern Kentucky, Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech. Click here for my visitor list article; there is a really good looking group of offensive linemen visiting.
