Loving all the Change !!

You gotta love the intensity that Ballis has. I truly believe you will see a different product on the field. Elko has work to do. Last years defense was fundamentally awful. Let's hope this staff can gel and stick together for a while.

If players don't want to be here then LEAVE. Football is an all in sport by every man on the team. Many things went into a 4-8 season, like unidentified distractions, poor S&C, and poor execution were but a few of the ingredients that took a team from 10-3 to 4-8. I like the changes made over the off season. Sometimes you do add by subtraction.

Dont discount the academic aspect either. It is not for the weak of heart. Tougher practices and tough academics aren't for everyone.

Did we get skunked on the invasion? Didn't seem to land anyone. Sure some just solidified. Just curious the rumors.

Very well said. ND isn't for everyone. If academics didn't matter, ND could join the SEC and dominate!

Who cares about test scores as a football fan ? Be honest. Football is about smashing your opponent and using war like strategy to have more points than the other team at the end of the game. You have to be a be a real fruit cake/ snow flake if you care about academics when watching a football game. Go Irish 1 Beat Temple on the football field !!

Like it or not, first to get into ND one has to meet their academic requirements, athletic prowess comes second. Once in, some find that the academic requirements (and/or other requirements unique to ND) aren't something they want to put up with for four years, so opt to leave.

Agree with nearly every post here. So many tangibles and intangibles at play last year. Bringing in Elko and Long and Balis will go a long ways towards righting what went wrong. The players holding themselves to a higher standard and each other to account seems the stuff of cliche, but you don't appreciate how critical this culture is until you don't have it, and everything suggests this year's team has it, and last year's team didn't.
As for the Academic side of the equation, I don't think any changes are necessary on admission requirements, as the minimum which athletes must meet are already well below the de facto competitive minimum for ND students at large. I do think ND would be well served to come up with a comprehensive plan to reduce the academic burden on all athletes during their primary playing season. Frankly, I marvel at how ND athletes, and football players in particular, juggle the demands of both.
Of the transfers out, I think playing time, or lack thereof, was the only consideration; and the one that hurts in terms of bench strength was Hoge as he was Mustipher's primary back up.

I think the Irish can play with the big boys. The academic excuse is for the snowflakes. I don't think Manti Te'o was a rocket scientist and he was a stud at ND. I do agree with you that all they need is good support from the academic advisors. Alabama is a good school despite what the Swamp elitists snow flakes think and Saban can keep his star players in line.. Notre Dame can compete if they can do some Knute Rockne type thinking. Go Irish !

Bodi, did you ever finalize which game you plan to drive up and see this year? I was fortunate enough to have a ND grad on my management team, and saw four Michgan games at ND stadium, and each ranks among my top spectator experiences. My wife still talks about lining the walkway and watching the players walk into the stadium, etc... The whole campus scene is one of respect and celebration. Hope you can make this trip happen.

There has been some downsizing at work. I have survived the first cuts. Once I get through this I will be back to making my plans for the ND game.. It will happen. I just have to stay focused

Best wishes on the work scene, and then onto to South Bend! Go Bodi....Go Irish!

I'm really confused as to the repeated reference to "snowflakes" and "snow flakes." First of all, which is the correct spelling? Next, I always thought the term was used to denigrate Liberals. Has the use been expanded so as to apply to other groups? Is it the same as calling someone a pansy or a "Nancy boy?"

It is pretty evident from your posts that you are confused.

My concern is that the ND fan base will still be pissed off if real, quality, progress doesn't equate to 10+ wins. While I'd understand the frustration, both Elko and Balis are going to require a full year (by the end of next season) to have everything running as smoothly as they'd like. If people are expecting a top 15 defense, you're going to be let down I think. Quality progress will take place though.

IIO, there definitely will be people upset if the Irish don't achieve their respective expectations. From a defensive perspective, my hope and expectation is that the Irish play sound fundamental defense. I also hope and expect them to play with enthusiasm. If they do that, and the special teams are solid and the offense reaches its potential, the Irish will be fun to watch and win their share of games. 10 wins? That may be too much to ask given the talent level on defense. Recruiting on the defensive side of the ball seems to be improving. Better coaching and better players equal a bright future.

The Irish have great talent and experience at Oline and running back. Should that not help the defense by controlling the clock?. If Elko can get some improvement from the D as I expect ND should have no excuse to win less than ten games. Wait until next year excuses are not good excuses anymore. If ND goes 8 and 5 again the recruiting class could implode. 12 and 0 in 17 !! Go Irish !!

I like the hires but it doesn't matter as long as bk is head coach. More of the ocho-cinco seasons to come. He has got to go

Bodi, the offense you are going to see on Saturdays is designed to play uptempo, not control the clock. Watch films of Memphis. They were a fast break offense. That puts a lot of pressure on the defense. Of course that was at Memphis. The tempo for ND may be designed for a more controlled tempo, but that will be a change for the OC.
