The kid had so much bad luck and never really had a chance. So much talent. Sorry to hear he's in a bad way.

Never had a chance? Even after failing with a 2nd chance at Nebraska, he still got a chance at the NFL with the Rams. Or did I fall for your trolling?

no troll. the kid had a rough life at home. sorry it turned out as it did for him.

I hope I'm not mixing him up with someone else (and I am I apologize if I am) but isn't he the guy that dragged his girlfriend down the stairs or something similar?

GO IRISH !

Friar he is doing 31 years for false imprisonment, agro fam violence and stealing a car. Not his first run in with the law and now is believed to have murdered his cellmate. Not sure how this is a moment to feel sorry for him but I do agree it is sad when super talented people lack the ability to do what it takes to make the most of skills others only dream about.

As I understand he didn't have a mother after a very young age. Jail or dead or something, I think it was drugs. No father so he bounced around foster homes kind of story. What a talent though. Sad to see it go so bad. Sorry for his victims of course.

So yeah, I am from a different universe.

Thomas Penegar Jr., Phillips' closest friend since they met as 12-year-olds at a West Covina group home, said a childhood tinged with neglect and abuse had left Phillips unable to tolerate even a hint of humiliation.
"When you grow up in a group home," Penegar said, "the last thing you want is for somebody to make fun of you."
Phillips was named Lawrence after a father he hardly knew, friends say. He spent his early years with his mother in South Los Angeles and Inglewood.

At 11 he entered the foster care system, after clashing with his mother's abusive live-in boyfriend, and stopped attending school, Penegar and a former school administrator said.
He skipped most of fifth grade and was shuttled from a foster home to a juvenile detention center and, finally, to the group home, said Ty Pagone, a former assistant principal at Baldwin Park High School
Penegar read poorly before entering the home. Phillips helped him with homework and never ridiculed him for mispronouncing words, said Penegar, who eventually went on to earn a college degree.

Wait a second. You feel sorry for this convicted domestic abuser who is serving a 31 year sentence and is now a suspect in his cellmate's death, but yet you trash Jameis Winston constantly even though the only crime he has been convicted of, if you want to call it that, is stealing crab legs out of a market. I'm sure you will rail against me and against Winston, whom I'm not a fan of by the way, calling him a rapist, but Winston has never been charged with that crime.

You are a crazy man. I know what this reply is going to unleash, but I can't let this drivel about Phillips go unanswered. I'm sure Nole is worn out trying to answer your insanity, so I will take up the torch at least in this topic.

Thanks for further proving what most already know....

Would you please expound on Manson's tough childhood?

Well, he didn't murder anyone and there are no rape allegations like Charlie Manson and Jameis Winston, if that's what you mean. I guess he dragged his cheating girlfriend out of the apartment. Not a good idea for sure. But he really had enormous talent.

I especially liked when he drove his car around a field trying to kill some teenagers over a pick up football game.

Your just pissed off because mom forgot you were still at day care. Chances are she didn't desert you so cope..... unlike Phillips, at least you have a mom and she doesn't lock you in a basement 24/7 like some poster's moms apparently do. She's probably doing her best with what she's got to work with..... you. Forgiveness is a virtue.

He never took advantage of the chances he was given and that starts with god given genetics. Osborne gave him multiple opportunities, and so did the Rams, Dolphins, 49ers, and the Alouettes of the CFL.

He is just a bad person and seems to be inherently evil. Whether it's driving a car into a group of teenagers, assaulting his girlfriend or murdering his cell mate. It's very safe to say society is a better place with Lawrence Phillips behind bars.

We are all captains of our own ship and responsible for our own actions. I'll reserve my sympathy for Lauren Hill or any child on a pediatric oncology ward. My capacity for sympathy or forgiveness does not extend to Lawrence Phillips.

He had enormous talent, and even more enormous anger management and violence issues that were well known before he ever set foot in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was destined to end up just where he is right now.

Bodi, He is suspected of killing Damion Soward, a 37-year-old inmate from San Bernardino County serving 82 years to life for a first-degree murder conviction.

Just a couple of savages.

Sure, that's the easy answer.

Just out of curiosity, how many on this board have worked either side in the criminal justice system?

And no, I'm not suggesting a lack of experience robs you of the right to have an opinion.

Great post ... I agree 100%.

Where did you come up with his "cheating girlfriend"? (As if that's some sort of excuse...)

"To wit: dragging her downstairs by her hair, bashing her head against a mailbox"

"he was charged in Los Angeles for allegedly putting the foot to the floor of a stolen Honda and trying to run down a gaggle of fleeing teenagers in a park."

"he grew enraged at some kids after joining their football game, even while San Diego police were looking for him on an assault charge, which includes allegedly choking his girlfriend into unconsciousness."

Wallruzz, What other way to look at it? BTW yeah, have some experience with the criminal justice system.

Is Winston far behind?

Somehow I see justice in Phillips and Winston sharing a cell. We can only hope justice is served.

I'm sure your's is padded.

Would you care to finally share why your opinion on Bowden is more suitable/appropriate than Dungy's, Holtz', others.....?

PS Did you have the chance to contact Tampa about the first pick and express your concerns?

I was a coach at Baldwin Park High School where Phillips attended. He was there long before me though. We used to get a lot of kids from that group home where he stayed. Very sad situation. Lawrence had a lot of baggage. He was fortunate that at the time he went there, the coaches that he played for had a very special knack for insulating kids like him. He never would have responded to someone who did not have a special way of handling kids like him. Unfortunately, as those coaches often told me, while that got him through high school and in to college, it did not prepare him for a world that would not give him as much rope. I saw Lawrence about a week before the famous pickup football game that landed him in prison. He was trying to get his life in order and was hoping to get a job working on the BP staff as an assistant coach.

You can always count on 0gaunt to post something ridiculously stupid on here. Didn't he start the post saying there are only 64 women's college basketball teams?

Syd4ND, What the heck happen at this pick up football game? BTW not to make light of that situation but he did get a very heavy prison term. What were his most of his convictions for?? I know he had some domestic fights.

------------

I can understand and sympathize with someone growing up in a sad situation, but there is a limit to the number of chances before an adult should get the message and be able to decide for himself to act in a better and, certainly, a non-violent manner. Phillips never seemed to learn or to care to try.

always excuses for garbage like him. And he was garbage.

lots of kids have the exact same environment and worse and do not turn out to be killers and abusers.

He was always going to go down that road- that was just the way he was

Comparing Phillips and Winston in the same sentence shows just how totally nut job delusional you really are.

You do know Phillips has a rap sheet a mile long and is imprisoned for most of his life?

I'll bet you (being Manson crazy) has a longer rap sheet than Winston.

I don't believe Winston even has a speeding ticket. Certainly no criminal charges or arrest record.

I'll bet you don't know how stupidly ignorant you are either.

This has nothing to do with Irish football take it somewhere that cares about someone being stupid! Everybody can tell sad stories.

you are a sick,sick individual.

I am far from sick in any way.

Winston raped at least one girl and another said she was violated. Who else?

The only sick people are the TPD, FSU and FSU fans who call him innocent when they know it is not.

For starters, can you define obsessive behavior?

Epictitus, I ask this not being a jerk. Did yourself or a family member suffer some sort of trauma at the hands of a FSU football player? I just want to understand the hatred that's been going on for quite some time. For instance I hate Patrick Ryan. I feel along with many others that he personally screwed the Irish. That's my excuse. Whatever thread comes up, you come in and bring it full circle to the trilogy. Bowden, Winston, or the Noles. For instance let's look at this guy who got shot in the back by the officer in South Carolina. I would venture the say that the victims family will never trust cops again. But their's a reason for this lack of trust. So what gives sir?

That post removed all doubt about you being sick.

Again .... produce one piece of evidence that points to guilt . Just one thing or

.

How many more times are you going to ignore that request?

You will probably need to wait a little while for a response as Argus just spent the day golfing with Lou at Augusta and is now dining with him.

Probably planning some sort of retirement function with Lou. May be the guest of honor at his retirement party. I suspect both will be "hopnored" at a ND halftime again this coming season as well.

You'll be able to tell which one is argus. He'll be the one in the white jacket with the straps in the back. His eyes are also permanently crossed.

Lou will be the one holding the sign that says .....
