Kizer is a good quarterback, steady so far, but not very dynamic. Wimbush is raw, but is very dynamic. If Kizer struggles for a few series will Kelly go to Wimbush? Could break either way. Wimbush could come in and tear it up or come in and have a big turnover. I didn't like the way he carried the ball away from his body on the touchdown run. Trying to get comfortable with a vision for the game. Notre Dame has games where they played very well on the road, and games where they have been horrible. Big game. Can't wait.

Kizer will be fine. Wimbush, as you said, is raw.

You can't let a few series force you into a change. No quarterback can perform well looking over his shoulder constantly. That way you show you have no confidence in him therefore he has no confidence in himself.

Don't let one long run by Wimbush influence your thinking. That's a good peek into the future, but for now Kizer is the man.

Kizer understands a QB who passes the LOS is an endangered species. His best blocker is the sidelines!

Kizer is the starter until the end of the year barring a huge breakdown.

Come next year. I expect the depth chart to have Wimbush number 2 though.

Kizer has one start of experience. I love the kid and I hope he's a great teammate. Because Wimbush has seen the field and Kelly isn't going to keep him on the sidelines.

It's game on for the QB's.

Go Irish!

Let's put it this way. He had no problem bringing in Tommy Rees in 2012 to spark the team. It did work so for those saying he has the door shut on that just remember twelve.

Disagree. Kizer is the qb that ND will depend on. Wimbush is far from ready. He may get some snaps but Kizer is the clear number 1

VERY interesting QB situation developing at ND.

Matt Fortuna has tweeted that Kelly is talking about Wimbush packages in the gameplan. That's a really big deal. If you have your QB, then he is the man. That tells us that Kizer has some issues, and it's clear what they are. Footwork, footwork footwork. I was at the game Saturday and it felt like EVERY pass Kizer threw into the flat was off target or in the dirt. I don't recall him making an accurate throw once on a bread-and-butter play in the ND offense. His downfield throws were mostly great. So clearly he is not moving his feet and rotating to make the out throws. He has to get better at that, and I think he will.

Wimbush in the gameplan is clearly in response to his amazing athletic ability. Did you see that throw to I think Fuller (I think, watched it live) that got reversed? How do you out throw Fuller on a 60 yard bomb??? Also, Wimbush might be faster than Fuller as well! This guy is amazing. I also imagine he is just absorbing the offense now that he's 1 play away. Pretty good motivation. In spring and summer, I was hearing all kinds of talk that Wimbush might even be the #2 coming into the season. Probably just too much to learn for a true frosh. I have a feeling Wimbush will be called on to win a game at some point this season.

Next year will be very interesting, and I worry we may lose someone to transfer. For anyone watching the Showtime series (and if you aren't you are totally missing out), in the locker room after Zaire's injury, Kelly states definitively to Zaire's mom that this is Zaire's team, and he will be the starter when he comes back next year. Pretty strong statement. Seems to eliminate any QB controversy for next year. However, what do you do if Kizer takes us to the Playoff? What do you do if Wimbush makes that proverbial "leap"? If Zaire isn't the QB, does he leave? Are the other guys willing to step back when clearly both could start at most Power 5 schools?

These are awesome problems to have. Another sign of the quality program Kelly has built. I'll go out on a limb here and say ANY top coach in the country would be sprinting to get to ND should Kelly ever make a jump to the pros. I hope he stays and finishes what he has started with 1 or more championships. We're good enough right now.

There are some throws I've yet to see Kizer make. A deep IN route comes to mind. I'm not talking about the TE sit down route but a legit deep in route of 20 plus yards. I'm not sure if he is afraid to pull the string on a pass like that as it goes right into the teeth of the defense....but something?

Wimbush is an incredible athlete. He is exciting. He could throw the deep ball on some packages. He has a canon for arm.

He does look like he needs to fill out a little bit though. Someone needs to tell him to carry the ball high and tight as well...that is a fumble waiting to happen.

I think the only way we see Wimbush is if our offense comes out flat. A spark with Wimbush might be something ...change of pace.

The offense will come out flat. No doubt Kelly has Wimbush in against Clemson. Kelly seems to like throwing these guys right into hot fires. Wimbush threw too long for Fuller. That was a heck of a throw. Then he took it to the house all by himself. The question isn't going to be when does Wimbush take the field, it's going to be when do you sit him down.

Go Irish!

I don't know how or why kelly would not give Wimbush real game action every weekend going forward. This kid has something....

PS I'd also like to see Sanders, Fuller and Hunter on the field at the same time.
If we can get Sanders in space it could loosen a lot of things up....

Kizer has the best skill sets for QB of the three. Said that last year. Question is whether Kelly can develop him. If so, Kizer is going to start, not just this year, but next as well and that is where the fun and games begin - how will Zaire handle the situation? Will Zaire become a distraction?

Zaire is the starter next year. Kizer can be the backup and redshirt Wimbush.

Sanford is the QB coach. In the past ND has had QB coaches but clearly BK has given Sanford all of the QB responsibilities and he has been excellent.

^ may be right; if DK gets the mechanics straightened out. All three have vvgood arm strength.
All are about equal in terms of foot speed; that is for extending plays.
As for the throws in the dirt; DK will not throw into a crowd and times he has deliberately thrown the 'duster'; that is not a stat booster but it is goid decision making.

I would agree with this provided we had a conventional style offense. This offense thrives on a QB that is mobile. Matter of fact it makes the whole thing so much harder to defend.
Kizer is the least mobile of the bunch. He is heavy footed.
His height is nice and if he was taking snaps under center and standing and throwing within the pocket only I would say you are spot on. In Kelly's offense they might take 5 snaps under center all year. He relies heavily on the zone read option with his QB's and that is great provided the QB is a real threat to keep the ball and run.

Kizer is our man this year.He has exceeded my expectations by a lot.

Next year it is Zaire with Kizer backing him up.
Hopefully Wimbush redshirts next year so he still has 2-3 years left whenever he is our starter.

Wimbush will transfer if it unfolds as you speak. No way he goes from playing....some....making everyone want to see more ...to red shirting. Odds would better seeing Malik position change if he can.
I mean I see no other way to keep all three on the roster all at the qb spot.
