Lou, your interview with Kelly looks very interesting. I look forward to reading the whole thing. I was curious about his comments in the preview about the 2012 defense. His point was that the scheme was too simple and the defense was "exposed" because Alabama had time to scout them. I'd like to get everyone's thoughts on a couple questions related to that comment.
1. We all know Diaco's defense was uncomplicated but Kelly said they basically had two looks. Is that hyperbole or was it really that simple? I don't get how it could have taken the competition all year to unlock it. We had talent on defense that year, but I wouldn't call it overwhelming.
2. Given that Kelly said he wanted to upgrade the complexity of the defensive scheme to get to the next level, do you think he was making to move on from Diaco regardless of him taking the UConn job? Is it possible Kelly encouraged him to take the job and move on?
I liked the questions and I liked Kelly's response. I'd love to hear Kelly give a detailed breakdown on what happened in that game.
