Kelly and USC last year

i came across this story on coaching searches that said there has been tension between Kelly, ND and trace Armstrong since last year when trace allegedly had discussion with USC about the open job there.

Can anyone shed light or input on this? I did not see it last year and don't know, if true, whether it sheds light on the events (or non events) of the last few days.
