The mighty Quinn has always been a GREAT coach but this year he has had to work overtime !
A brand spanking new Oline that was hurt by the loss of the GREAT LT Blake Fisher and even injuries to his backups
is regaining it's MOJO with a little shuffling of the lineup and hardwork !
And the recruiting for Olineman has been as GREAT as ever and many top oline recruits and transfers want to play for ND.

*** Clemson has had the same problems as ND at the Oline but they are not getting any better--they are getting worse.

*** Harry Heistand was a GREAT oline coach for ND and Jeff Quinn is carrying on his legacy with a vengeance !

*** When times get tough ! The tough get going ! The weak just bitc# and complain !

said only you..... our oline vs usc only looked better because you're comparing it to the first 5 games where it was a dumpster fire. It still was not good.

The OL play has improved significantly, and they were well above mediocre against USC in my opinion. They allowed one QB sack, four hurries in 29 pass attempts. We rushed for 4.45 yards per carry. Yes, the up tempo helped, and having Coan deliver quicker shorter passes did as well, but it was a good performance nonetheless. We’re not anywhere close to where we need to be to compete against a top defense, and we need to see continued significant improvement in each of our remaining games.

No. He's getting by, but we should be better, and deserve a better coach.

Think you're going to be disappointed. The OL is improving. And if we finish strong, with performances really no better than what we saw against USC for the rest of the season.... I think it's going to be considered problem solved. Storm weathered. Sorry, buddy. But this crisis along the OL is not going to be leveraged into a lynching of everyone's favorite coach they want to fire. Maybe if we'd lost a bunch of games. Maybe if we'd lost to VTech.... but Jack Coan's got his OL's back, and he wasn't going to let that happen.

Oh, and if there's anybody anywhere in the universe that doesn't deserve shit, it's disgruntled ND fans. You get whatever you get.

Compared to what we had come to expect from the ND Oline in years past the performance against USC was mediocre.

Yet we beat USC by the second largest score in the Kelly era. And the Oline had alot to do with it. Maybe not Great but far from mediocre.
USC had a notable pass rusher yet Alt and company kept him in check. Coan was sacked like one time. And the running game was excellent. And did the Irish have any false starts or holding penalties?

Looked more like the quick pass and hurry up help reduce the amount of time the oline had to block. They should do this the rest of the year. It still looks like running game needs improvements. From what I saw against usc, williams was making defense miss behind the line and found ways to gain yardage. Williams was amazing to watch that game.

Kyren couldn't do his thing previously because he was met in the backfield by consistantly. The running game was good and Coan only got sacked one time--and he kind of was to blame himself for that one.
The Oline looked terrific, imo.

*** The line got better for Virginia Tech and got even better against USC. Now that they have their five same people in place they will only get better and Blake Fisher will be back later. Hopefully no more injurys.

A mistake that the coaching staff made.... maybe Quinn or Quinn, Kelly who knows, was that when they had opportunity to play backups and get experience they didn't last year. And that hurt us this year.

Not sure the 3 down usc did wasn’t part of our success running just like other teams against our 3 down. We’ll see this weekend

They are not playing better. The results have been better and the teams get easier. Still tons of bad technique and missed assignments, but at least the current lineup attacks and holds on once engaged.

You have got to be joking. Did you see the Toledo game?

*** I get your points but not playing better seems like hyperbole to me.

LT & LG are stabilized. That means the C can play more freely and confident. The RT is solid but not spectacular. The RG is now the weak link. Personally I’d move Josh Lugg to RG, Tosh Baker to RT. And #62 goes to the bench.

That was the basis of complaint in the first five games. Look what those god awful teams were doing against our defense and our god awful OL can't block a good high school defense. Now that the OL is doing better it's because our opponents are god awful. I guess there are those who can't help themselves--they have to complain about something.

Lugg played poorly last year when he subbed at guard and center, and Kelly made clear this year that Lugg is uncomfortable playing inside and that he would be playing tackle and tackle only this year. So, maybe part physical and part mental, but Lugg doesn’t seem like an option at RG. I had hoped we would see Rocco there this year at some point, but For some reason, maybe football related or not, he hasn’t seen any action on a weak underperforming OL. Baker was disappointing to me when he initially replaced Fisher, so I don’t think he’s an upgrade over Lugg at this point. As much as I’m not a fan of Lugg, I think He’s our best option today at RT, but I agree about Madden. Since Rocco isn’t an option for some unknown reason, I’d like to see Carmody at RG where I think he Is better suited to play than tackle now and in the future.

With all that's happened I feel even more emboldened in saying I wish we had passed on Cain Madden. Nothing against the guy, I'm sure he's a fine OL. But we didn't really need him, and I'd rather see whoever it is, whoever might it be who emerges organically to get the snaps, who easily could end up being a better player... and if there's any position group in the sport of football where you want that continuity and holistic element, it's OL. We just didn't need a ringer!

But whatever, it was always going to be a considerable step backwards for the OL. And it's only halfway through our rebuilding year and we're already turning the corner. So everything's pretty much on schedule. Knock on wood no more injuries.
